I know that most people have done it, but I want to start learning this stuff to avoid insane dealer costs! I have a 2004 Arctic Cat F6 Sno Pro Team Edition sled. How exactly do I change the crank case oil? Second, what oil is best recommended to do the job. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the case, that I know, but I have heard that you need to tip the sled on its side (away from the case) and unbolt.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Isnt that engine a 2-stroke? there is no crankcase oil to change!
It is oil injected

Correct it is a 2 stroke, with reverse. There is a crank case, red dip stick and all.

brain fart there sorry i thought you meant engine crankcase
my opinion of oil selection would be AMSOIL chaincase oil (everyone has their own opinion)
I think just pulling the drain plug should do it, you can always try to tip it over a bit to get that last little extra out.

NO brain fart just going with the info given.. It's 2 stroke no CRANK case oil to change.. There is a CHAIN case though, that oil should get changed every yr. I've always used synthetic chain case oil.

Thanks guys, you see, I gotta learn the lingo and fast! Correct, there is a chain case. I was told a year ago that there are some tricky parts in the chain case to watch out for if I took the case cover off..is this true? Is there really a need to do that though....

Another quick question, do you fill the new oil into the dipstick shaft. I assume you need to check the output (drained) vs. input (new) using the dip stick to check that you have the correct amount.

Anything else?

check the dip stick for metal shavings.. I think there is a mag on the end. there is on polaris sleds.. If it looks good just drail the oil, and fill using the dip stick hole. check to make sure you have the correct amount. I always check mine before every ride, or gas fill up.

yes there is some springs and rollers in there and if you pull the cover off make sure you clean both the mating sufaces and use rvt black when you put it back together for a good seal that wont leak

it wouldnt be a bad idea just to take the cover off and check your chain tension, and inspect everything and get all the crap out of it before you put in new oil, the chain case isnt that tricky, if you take the cover off nothing should fall out

I will agree with dragon600mod, just pull the cover, when i bought my sled form the dealer i had a horrible experience, no oil ( like 2 fl oz) in the chain case, the chain overheated, streched, and started to jump cogs on the sprocket!!! just pull the cover, its real easy and inspect and clean!!
