A coworker has a 93 Arctic Cat Wildcat 700 EFI that blew up 2 years ago. It has been parked since. The engine just locked up and he has not taken it apart yet. He said just before it blew it was running better than ever and beating every sled it ran against, then POOF. So, sounds lean to me.
Anyways, when an EFI sled blows up, how do you know how to diagnose it? I am assuming just read the piston just like on a carbed sled?
But on a carbed sled there is more things to check. I don't know jack about EFI so any advice is appreciated that I can share with him and help him get back in the snow.

The fact that it was running better than ever before meltdown makes it sound like it leaned out to me also. Pistons might definitely be a tell-tale sign.
Could have been snow ingestion maybe? I know it was a problem in the newer chassis's (98-02), not sure about the older ones though. The intake boots were known to crack and go bad, and would eventually leak and suck in air/snow, causing some meltdown issues. The boots on my ZR went bad, but I caught it before it got bad enough to do any damage. Just a thought...

X2 on the boots. I would go towards a lean out. Sense its about the most common thing to happen to about any sled. As far as electrical diagonstics, no idea. best way is to tear into it

I would guess that it is likely the crank seals or bad PTO end bearing that went out causing it to suck in air at the crank.

Crank seals and bearings are also on my mind. I just bought some SPI pistons for his sled. Need gaskets next.
How do you check the amount of oil going into an EFI engine? How is that moderated?
I am sure this thing will be getting new crank seals, bearings, pistons, rings, wrist pins, jugs.. just want to make sure it wasn't lack of oil so it does not happen again.

It been a long time since I have seen a 700 cat but doesn't it have oil lines plumbed to the block. Again it has been 10+ years since I have been around one. 2 co-workers had them. It semed like they put pistons in them nearly evry 2 years. Was like they would eat them???

I would also maybe run a little premix in the tank ,with the oil injection ,infact if you look at most manuals it states that when the temperature gets to a certain point suppose to premix the tank 50-1 along with the injecter oil ,,,I usually go 70-1

I've found that stuff I've learned about carb'd sleds applies to EFI sleds (with the exception of carb work obviously )... atomizing fuel is aromizing fuel whether it's a carb or EFI
