Ouch, that sounds like it hurt, what did the doc's say? We have a guy in out group that broke his back in a sledding accident, it happend over 10 years ago, (he's in his 60's now) he still has issues with his back. If he lifts to much, or works to hard he suffers the next day. I would suggest when you do get on a sled wear a back brace. From what this guy says it helps a lot.

If it ain't broke,
change stuff till it is.

I usually do trail/off trail with jumping mixed into it all. Dont get me wrong it WILL hurt when you land but you have to trust that you can handle it and know your limits. I rely on my brace a lot.

I use my legs A LOT compared to what i used to to try and absorb the shock, if you are smart and take the right precautions you will be ok(as long as the doc agrees).

You will be ok, just be sure to do you normal back exercises and it will build mass on your back where you need it most.

Ouch bud, best of luck and for your sake follow the doctors orders. My mother had a traumatic injury at 16 (She broke her neck) and has been in a wheel chair since. So please remember back/neck injuries are no joke. Be safe and have fun.

I crushed T-7, 8, 9, and 10 back in '95 (posted about that in another thread), and it doesn't effect my riding now at all..

What does have an effect, is that when I quit riding my mountain bike I gained a hundred pounds, which I have since lost half of that. Keep up on your therapy exercises, and keep active, and you should be ok.

95 - Storm 800 - Modded - AKA: FrankenStorm - Totalled near 100mph at Tug Hill!
96 - XLT/SP with Storm 800 trip/trip and now EFI - FrankenStorm II lives...
95 - RXL -- Sale Pending --
05 - Edge 800 long track - Stayin' stock for now..

It made me more compassionate, more empathetic, more nurturing...

The only thing you have going for you is your age. I know 3 guys who have had back injuries and none of them are the same as they were before. Good luck

You just need to be careful until you are sure all of the bones are stable. It is fragile until it has fully fused and you don't want to mess with it until it has stabilized. This is one of those things that some short term sled deprivation may be very important for your long term comfort, so be really careful! Good luck!

Coming from someone with back problems, like many others here, DON'T push it right away!!! Take it easy and follow your doc's and p.t.'s instructions, and if you become sore after riding, let them know.
