I`m about 2 hours away, from the time i am suppose to meet a guy to posibley buy his 97 XCR..
I`ve got most the usuall info from him...but then today, when i called to confirm the time..he mentioned something about this sled not aving the fuji motor, but rather a domestic motor??
What the heck does that mean?
It should be the case reed correct?
I ask him to look at the motor, and confirm, and he said each cylinder is seperate...so that sounds typical of a 97 XCR..but what do you suppose he may have meant by saying its got the domestic motor in it?
He said his told told him that...and really did`nt know exactly what that meant??
Any and all thoughts would be greatly apreciated..
Thanks

Domestic means: the made in USA, "Liberty" twin engine with VES. It's a completely different animal than the Fuji- check out the 440 XCR forum in the Polaris section. You can learn everything you possibly want to know there....
If it's a Domestic motored XCR, the desirability just went up 500% in my opinion. If you were going to be happy with a Fuji 440, wait until you squeeze the throttle on this thing...

He actually never said it was a 440. I dont think polaris even made a 440 xcr in 97. They made the xcr 600 and xcr 600 se, both aggressive chassis. The 440s in 97 were the indy 440 in the evolved chassis and the XC 440 in a wedge chassis.
Also not all liberty motors had ves. The first few years of the 600, 700, and 800 liberty big block motors were non-ves. However, I do think all the liberty 440s did have ves. I could be wrong though.
If someone put a liberty 600 twin into an xcr 600 triple chassis I would stay away from it. Sounds like someone just threw it together just to sell it.

They did make a 97 xcr 440 with the domestic twin, but it was made for the racers only. The consumer model came out in 98.

Then what pray tell is my 700 pro x and my father 03' xc 700 edge x. Cause polaris didn't make any small block 700s.
Yes the 97 was the first semi production ves.

when the seller told him "domestic engine" XCR, it should be a no brainer he was talking 440 xcr. The only other Domestic engine in 1997 was the 700RMK/SKS (and a mid year xc700/600 release)I don't understand why people want to confuse fixerupper by posting info that is incorrect....Xcr440 has it right on again....Fixerupper I would suggest pm-ing xcr440 for further questions.Your head will spin less

heys guys..sorry for the very delayed responce and failing to include the motor size....been having computor problems...
but you gotta read the below..its unreal...
anyway, it was "suppose to be". a 1997 XCR 600..that was what he advertised it as..when I called the guy, he had made the comment about it being a domestic motor..so I ask him to describe the motor to me, and he did..said it was a three cylinder triple..seperate cylinders (not a mono block, so it sounded like a normal correct three single cylinders 97 motor to me.correct motor, not an earlier XCR mono..), anyway, he swore up and down it was a domestic motor..
Well, anyway, it was advertised as being in great condition, with everything working..only one very small crack in the hood, and a 1inch rip in the seat...he also, mentioned it could use new ski`s, as the originals were "getting worn" acording to him..well, i was`nt too woried about the ski`s, as I have a set of USI`s on stash...
so..I get there...walk into the somewhat dimly lighted garage, and the first thing i notice, is the ski`s are COMPLTLEY worn through..and I mean, as in a 2inch void, almost the entire lengh of them both!!...I`ve seen some worn ski`s in my time...but nothing like this..holy crap!!,,I knew that could`nt be a good sign..so anyway, i get a little closer, and see it has MAJOR cracks, all over the hood..WTF?
seat has much much larger rip/S, then described..well, at this point, I`m already thinking this is a definant no go..but figure I`ll go ahead and check out the motor etc while I`m there..
so he pops the hood..the front of the motor looks like someone poured a half gallon of oil all over it..it is a triple, non mono block, that`s about all i could tell..then he quickly fires it up..sounds a bit sick..so i start feeling the pipes..pipe nearest the clutch is cold..slowly starts warming up...I tell him to go ahead and shut er dwn..after it stops running..i happen to glance at the secondary clutch something does`nt look right, so i ask him if tat`s the priginal clutch..he says no, i gave the priginal to a friend of mine, and he gave me that one..it looked like a very old vintage clutch to me..then...I glance at the primary clutch....get this..NO CLUTCH BOLT HOLDING IT ON!!..WTF!!
I had just been leaning over the motor..my god man..that thing culd have flew off in a heart beat as far as i know..i tell him the clutch bolt is missing, and he says, yeah it`s been gone for a while..a freind of mine got that clutch off it too, and gave me that one, and we lost the bolt..but it don`t need it, I`ve been riding around my yard all summer with it like that...so as he`s telling me this..and I`m still looking at the clutch..i notice it not only has a missing bolt..but probley the biggest crack i have ever seen!! HUGE open crack!!
Okay..this is now laughable..so I can`t help but ask/check a few more things..I ask, if all the electrical etc works on it (the add said "everything works" ohh, and the add also said it was "clutched"..lol), anyway, he says, well the speedo, or maybe it`s the tach, i can`t remember, but anyway, one of them don`t work, and the left hand warmer don`t work...and sometimes the headlight gets real bright, then burns out..(bad regulator)..
just to add..he also said on the phone the track was in great shape..from what little time i spent glancing at it..i seen three rips outs..there`s probley a lot more..
ohh, almost forgot..
he mentions that he put a new chaincase on it..then mentions that I should always add oil to it, before every ride..I ask him, why is that? he replies, that`s just how polaris`es are..ohh my god man..needless to say..I ask if it has oil in it now? he says yeah, then I ask when`s the last time you checked it..he said earlier this summer (keep in mind, he said he`s been riding around his yard ALL SUMMER), anyway, I pull the dip stick..nothing, but some black looking oily shavings from what I could tell..
there`s a reason i picked the name "fixerupper" for my user name here a long time ago..i don`t mind fixing up a sled at all..but man..i have never seen, a more abused POS in my life..by the time I was done looking this thing over...I was soo discusted at how much he totally trashed it, it was just rediculess..
P.S..he wanted $800 firm for it...hahahahahahahaha
freaking idiot..

haha great story. i dont think someone could pay me to take it away. there isnt a single useful part on it that could be re-sold!
someone really needs to punch the guy in the head because he doesnt not have the mentality to own a mechanical machine.

Dodger, you were right on the fact but Polaris didnt make mid season released on XC6, just the XC7. BIG blocks went from '97 to '01 except for the '00 XC6 had its first VES and '02, XC7 - 8 also had their first VES - all were small blocks. In the 800 triples, Polaris had them in '99 XCR700/800 and from '00 - '03, XCR fuji were the only engine in VES til they were eliminated after '03. WL
Im sorry, I didnt completed it. '99 XCR7 VES was the only one year wonder and was dropped the following year. (Who knows why) XCR8 was continued til '03. WL
