Hello all,
Have a 04, 800 switchy, edge of course, 2nd owner and while i was dipping into my sled in finer detail today looking for places to cut corners, One thing i noticed was the blocked vent port on the hood venting to the upper airbox and clutch area roughly, anyone know why this is blocked?
Also cracked my windshield, im 6,3 so at no point do i ever realy *use* this windshield, infact i standup 95% of the time i ride, i mostly agressive mountain/powder ride and have yet to have my first decent roller down a hill, to me the windshield other than trying to block a little wind acts like a shovel when rolling down the hill from what i see, helping to rip the hood open and make your wallet a little lighter, aside from maby a little extra intake snow blockage when doing lay overs in the deer stuff, any real reasion to keep a windshield on the beast? without it, it seems like allmost nothing can *grab* the hood and pull it open.
i have risers, its a switchy but the other owner put deep lugs and a simmons powder skis on it, so basicy its now a 144 RMK with good shocks.
Can anyone recommend a good cheap tac?
thanks

I tried riding mine with out a windshield once and it sucked.
It wasn't to bad for the most part. When it got dark out the temp
dropped to like -20. I had nothing to block the wind.
That sucked I was freezing by the time I got back to the lodge.
I never thought they did much either but I learned that night just
how much that little windshield does.
From what I have saw of sleds rolling down a mountain windshield or not I think your hood is coming off.
I believe that vent is blocked to keep snow off the clutch.
when in doubt throttle it out

trust me you want one. A. it somewhat protects the vents by the handle bars. B. it makes it look better. C. it makes it so that the powder wont push your hands of the bars. like jorgy said if its rolling no matter what the hood is going to come off. D. it protects your body from the wind, you might have to get a lil bigger wind shield though.

Ya that vent is blocked off from the factory and it is to prevent snow from getting the belt wet which would create slippage.

well i appreaciate the comments, but bigger windshield is defintly a no, low profile is ok if my wallet does not mind, but at no point do i duct behind it, infact my belt line usually sits above it.
if it gets 20- and dark out, i should be at home slamming beers lol, the coldest ive seen it around my house was -10 and thats cold period, The way things work around here, all riding around the city is realy back country open riding, There is no city trail system around here at all especially on the south side of tahoe, and virtually no one night rides around here unless there very adventours, most real riding gos on mid day, in the back mountains.
i do understand the windshield keeping snow off the intake vents, when its 2+ feet of fresh powder here, i usually dont see my gauges all day anyways even with the fullsize stock. things to try out i realise, but i plan on adding extra intake holes, the intake is the only reasion i would want to at least keep a lo-pro windshield, but very little stops powder from getting everywhere on deep days when your realy laying into it.
where do you find cheap lo pro windshields?

if you do get a short windshield i would get like a 9 inch the way my windshield is the powder bounces right off and hits me directly in the hands so thats why i run hand guards

Get two extra straps to hold your hood down, put them in the middle between the stock strap on each side and the front bumper. That will hold it on fine, that's what I did on my Pro-X. I rolled it down a hill for about 400 ft. and the hood never flew open.
Usually it's the Cat's that have the hood fly open anyways.
