i know this guy that has an SRX 700 and he said i could buy it once i get enough money. i like SRX 700 because there fast, and i know that there heavy, but i still like them. but do they blow up often?

i was looking through srx_600 pictures, and i noticed a picture that said his SRX was blown up. just last season, this guys friend tom blew his SRX up to.

do they blow up often, or are these just coincidences? because if they do, i don't really think i would want one.

Bambi would have been a better and shorter movie if he was shot in the beginning with his mother

if a ride on lawn mower takes bumps better than your sled, its time to upgrade

a properly jetted and clutched srx is almost bullet proof. dirty carbs, poor fuel, and lack of maintenance can make any sled fail.

**** yamaha go with polaris they have good tripples the xcrs haul ass and u can always depend on them my dads 1996 xcr 600 starts first pull everytime. and the thing tops out at about 118 but true speed thats about 112 110 mph

My buddy had a 1997 XCR 600 and blew it up twice. I'm pretty sure the guy he bought it from did not maintain it the head was not even torqued down. The second tragedy was water pump failure. Also the 1996 XCR will not do 112mph and was known as a Frankenstein. Don't get me wrong I love Polaris and own a XCR 800 but the 96 and 97 XCR 600's do not have a good record. The SRX 700 was a great sled, only the 1998 and few 1999's had crank issues, they were recalled and fixed. If the SRX has been maintained it will be bullet proof. The SRX 700's are great reliable muscle sleds.

Cheers

Don't know much about them.
One of the guys that went out west with us last year has one. The first day in it burned up. The guy that runs the rental place didn't even ask what happened. When he saw us pulling it in he just said center cylinder burned up didn't it. Come to find out the rental place had problems with them when they rented them. Yamaha's fix was to leave the center needle one notch higher than the other 2 I believe not 100% on that. Thats what the guy that runs the rental place told us.
Other than that I don't think he has had any problems with it.
Good running sled
Got around good for the most part out west for a short track

when in doubt throttle it out

My pops has one and it blew up, reason, the oil line some how came off. Towed the srx to the nearest road, picked her up. We brought it home and just swapped motors with another motor we had. The next day we were riding again.

Oh and that blown up motor is just sitting there waiting for me to rebuild it and get put in the 440, if it's not enough power.

Those most likely are a coincidence. The Srx's are usually told to be bulletproof I have heard good stories on them

Any sled can blow up, if you want one that won't get a die cast

As long as it's been maintained well and you keep it up you will be fine.

We through out a lower rod bearing, not much we coulda done there to prevent it. Old owner used to race it so it was run hard. They are very reliable.

To be honest, they are only good on VERY SMOOTH trails and lakes. They are very fast in a straight line and with proper setup, they can handle very well too, however, the pro-noaction suspensions on those sleds are god awful, not worlds better than your current ride believe it or not. There are also a lot of problems with broken W arms as well. then again, every sled has its ups and downs, so pick your poison.

Very fast if set up correctly, great on fuel, and worst suspension out there to ride and work on! There are many upgrades that can be done to the suspension so don't let that be a factor.

haha got this quote form an ad for a 98' srx.
Quote
If you've ever wished for the performance and torque of a triple with the handling of a lightweight twin, well, you can stop wishing: SRX 700 has great power and acceleration, enhanced by new Mikuni TM flat slide carbs. The SRX also rides on the most advanced suspension available.

also,on many ads, i have been seeing upward of 4500 miles (7242 Kilometers). i thought that 4000 miles was a decent amount, there is a 2001 srx near me that has 9500 miles and they are trying to get $1700.

i saw a srx no lie with 18,900 miles it wasn't a mistake it was real original motor. the guy said he had it serviced 2 a season and used it everyday see that's the key with snowmobiles . when you used them then let them sit then use them they tend to wear on motor more then if you used it every single day. i mean not more wear but like they tend to melt for better words. idk you know what im saying
srx 700 all the way. fast! and yes suspension does suck i have mine out right now because i broke it but i was jumping it over a road so ya know not supposed to be doing much ditchbangin with a lake racer.
cheers

Yamaha has reliability now pat. All high performance sleds are going to blow up eventually, even the ones that a perfessionally maintained. I would pass on the one with 9500 miles, though save a bit more and look for something with around 4000.
