Okay In my boces class, we are going to learn about welding and I have the great idea of killing two birds with one stone. I want to make a groomer for the Alpine that I own and I want to get a good grade in Boces. I can not find any thing on Google on how to make one. I have a friend that can get his hands on some scrap metal for free. I need your guys help to help me make up or find dimensions for this home made groomer idea. If any body has made one post a pic and give the dimensions that you have used .

1998 Polaris Indy 500 chassis with 98 Xc 600 motor
SLP ceramic coated pipe with SLP can
V-force reeds
4 inch pivot riser
Gutted Air Box
EPI clutch kit soon to be installed
Maybe some pro tapers

1998 XC 700 water-cross sled
SLP twin pipes
Some light weight parts
Water-cross mods include taking the parts u do not need
This includes removing the seat replacing gas tank and IFS bars.

It wont help you in your class but we just draged a loading skid around by a rope and it seemed to work pretty well.

Weld a flat bracket to the end of an old bedspring and put some weight on it. That works pretty good.

Me to! I'm glad this thread made me investigate it a little bit more. That second site I found was a wealth of info.

I still can not find a good easy schematic on building one. I know that most groomers have v shaped pieces of metal that cut the snow open and other pieces of metal to flatten the snow then a piece of metal in the back to compact the snow. Has any body have some good design ideas

Wow...over a 100 page manual on grooming. Lots of good stuff in that one article. If I am bored enough I will be reading it.

on the first link he gave you use the ladder drag with skiis on the side and then at the back if you can, try and add a think that they use in baseball to rake the dirt, and then after that something to compact the snow and leave the comb texture. to revier the ladder with skiis and a dragging thing to make some small powder and then something heavy to compact it and make the groves. just my .02cent. our what w used to do was like the tid tech roller.

heres a good link
http://s8.zetaboards.com/snowgroomingtalk/index/

I was thinking of using an old bedspring, and then hooking up a 55 gallon drum cut in half or a 300 gallon fuel oil barrel to compact it on the back.

I would be very interested in having one of these, the ditches around my house get really bumpy. Just another idea, if you could create a design that worked well and wasn't to big, you could sell it. I would buy one of these if they didnt cost to much.

See if you can get in touch with whoever does the grooming in your area, and ask them if you can take measurements and pictures of one of their groomers, assuming that they have a smaller sized groomer that is. Im sure theyd love it if there was someone else out there helping them do their job, and also helping out a student to boot.

Great idea btw.
