Just found a 2009 switchback 800 leftover for $9000 and was thinking of buying this sled. Can anybody give me your honest opinion on this sled? I did some internet reasearch and found some pretty good reports, Just wondering if anyone here owns one and could give me some feedback.

That 800 engine had issues.... Make sure the dealer has done the updates.
Otherwise, I have heard nothing but good things about IQ chassis Switchbacks.

I THINK that is the same motor as the 08 iq chassis. if it is i know there was a recall on the top end. But in 09 they went and fixed the problem. Dont know what is was but this is what I heard. My friend has a 08 iq 800 and it had a recall on the top end. But you could only get the recall if you asked a polaris dealer about it. So not everyone could get it. Other than that I think their great sleds. Good suspension, plenty of power.

I think you could do a little better on the price.

Just like Polaris's Edge chasis all I have heard is good things about the IQ chasis so I don't think you'll have any problems there. For the motor I believe there were some issues with the 800 but like the previous post if the dealer has the updates on it, you shouldn't have any problems, and if you do it will probably be covered under warrenty. For $9000.00 I don't think you can go wrong.

Quote originally posted by 440_jag But in 09 they went and fixed the problem. They figured out the fix during the 09 season. 09 motors were affected as well, there are a few members on here that have gone through a couple top ends on their 09. I believe it had something to do with the single ring pistons they were using. Thought it would pump out a few more ponies, but it was a big mistake for them. I will agree with Kingofkings, though. The 800 Switch is a $10k sled. See if they'll come down on the price. Dealers will be looking to move the 09 sleds...

I'll agree that they're asking a bit to much, maybe 8k would be a fairer price.

Yes, single ring pistons were a friggen joke to begin with, I knew it would happen when they were introduced. All '08/9's should be updated and an extra year's warranty tagged on them. If I felt the need for an 800 I would buy one, but 6's just do everything they do for me.

I agree with everyone else on the price. I was looking at an 09 dragon 600 at the end of last season and i believe they quoted me at around 8000. But then again it is an 800 so they jack up the price a grand for that and it is a bigger machine. Try and do a little bargaining though.
you have to love the dragons though, they are beautiful sleds.

Here is what we ended up finding out, this is from a Ploaris dealer back in July.
"You must be reffering to the 800 engines. There was a reflash for the 800
last season that help the issue some of them were having. Two weeks ago
Polaris anounced that there is going to be an update kit for the 2009 models
which will reflash them again, replaced the exhaust silencer, replace the
pistons and rings, and replace the heads. This will be done at no expense
to the customer. Once this update is done there will be no more issues with
the 800 engine. The kits should be out in a few weeks."
