I am working a a 86 indy trail 488 fan, sled runs good but starts hard when cold. The choke lever seems like it moves easier then it should but I have checked to verify the choke plungers are working in the carb. When running I can flip the choke on and it has no effect on how it runs. So the plungers move in the carbs but it does not effect anything,do these plungers wear out? What is my problem,I have never seen this happen before.

I just went through this on a '91 440 fan. When you are flipping the choke on, is it all the way or just half way?
Sounds like they are adjusted too far down? Pull the plungers and check to make sure they actually are moving. Maybe the cable is bad?

Just re-read your post...is the small passage under the plunger plugged. I'd pull the carbs and blow compressed air through the passages just to make sure.

Bingo, its on a 86 and the cables have very little adjustment to work with. I turned the adjuster a couple turns which is about as far as it would go and now its perfect. I didnt think they would be quite that sensitive. Learn something new everyday
