Your father probably knows mine then. My dad used to work for fifth third bank and went around to those dealerships. On the Taurus subject, nice car, but give me a G8 anyday over this.

^^^Amen to that, Ford didn't take the bailout even though it was offered to them and they didn't go bankrupt, they went bankrupt a few years after they started up and they weren't offered a bailout. That's why I still respect Ford over Chrysler and Obama Motors.

Hopefully they built these ones better than the original taurus SHO.
My buddy had one of those from new. Bulletproof.

Haha, a buddy of mine had one also, POS from the day he got it.
I've heard both ways from several people. There's good and bad in everything.
I had the opportunity to drive a 2009 Taurus with the standard 3.5 and tell you what, I was impressed with that, and it takes a lot from a new vehicle to impress me.
All Tauruses had not the strongest tranny's and they were asking for it with the increased horsepower. The 3rd gen with the v8 had the most significant problem, the cam shaft would literally "break" and stop rotating and your cylinders would smash into your valves, note to those looking at one, have a TRUSTED machinist weld them up.

yes that car is nice, but does that also get 17/25MPG? that's the big thing. anyone can make a fast car, but making a fast efficient car is the difficult part.

with cars that have steering wheels on the opposite side, do the pedals change positions at all? like is the clutch at your right foot?

Quote originally posted by Dirty_Harry You guys know that Vauxhall is what they made the G8 out of correct? And the 6.0 does get 25 mpg highway. I used to sell them. The Holden (HSV from Australia) Clubsport R8, was rebadged as the Vauxhall VXR8 for Europe, the Pontiac G8 GXP for N/A, and the Chevy CSV8 in the middle east. The motor is the LS3 'vette motor and provided 414BHP stock, and the platform is also used to make the new Camaro, but I don't think that the Camaro gets the big motor. No, the pedals are standardized..

Matt, is that similar to the Honda V-TEC idea? I always wondered why it couldnt be applied on the diesel side of things, i would think it would boost MPG and lower emissions...

This new "eco-boost" engine is just a marketing gimmick. V8s are considered faux pas in todays GREEN culture, so why not produce a V6 that makes the same power and gets similar mileage?? Perfect! If they dropped a V8 into it and it got 3mpg better, it'd be a marketing nightmare. Car companies are being pressed to drop these bigger engines because of the new CAFE standards when they actually HELP their fleet average. I wish I had a facepalm emoticon.....
I WILL say that American car companies have made some great strides in the past few years producing cars that are actually contenders in the global market. The Taurus, the new CTS and cars on that platform are just examples of cars that are designed with foreign competition in mind. It's nice to see car companies actually putting out quality products after so many years of crap.
 Go USA.

well...if that's what gets Ford cars sold, and makes the company profit, so they don't have to end up like GM, or Chrysler, i say good thinking Ford.

Quote originally posted by 87srvsnow well...if that's what gets Ford cars sold, and makes the company profit, so they don't have to end up like GM, or Chrysler, i say good thinking Ford. Thats what I was saying. It's a way to get cars sold. If you compare apples to apples, the EcoBoost engine offers no weight savings, no power gains, and negligible mileage gains (<5%). However, people will look at it as a fuel efficient, high powered V6, and won't even think about what a V8 would do in the same car. V8s are evil. V6s are green. Thats just how it's working now. Good for Ford for figuring this out and taking full advantage. It's about time an American car company has done so...

If you are into lots-a-power and good MPG.. check out my job.. I always wondered why it couldnt be applied on the diesel side of things, i would think it would boost MPG and lower emissions... V-tec varies duration, timing, and lift by by switching between different cam lobes (different profiles). VCT varies valve timing by rotating the cam shaft (uses the same cam lobe) by advancing or retarding the timing. Both systems are variable valve timing, they just do it a different way. I believe V-tec kicks in a certain RPM where VCT applies at all RPM's. Here is how VCT works http://www.2carpros.com/how_does_it_work...timing.htmHere is how V-tec works As you can see vtec is on or off.. not variable Here is how our VCT works. Ours is a CTA (Cam Torque Actuated) VCT works I currently design those products and some of the machines assembling the phasers. I even have been working weekends on the factory floor assembling them. Here is a little article I found quick on some new business for us and what our CTA VCT is able to accomplish in this case http://www.autoevolution.com/news/borgwa...11695.htmlVCT is nothing new but our CTA VCT is because it uses cam torque instead of oil pressure thus making it more efficient Hope some of that helped you understand some technical information and didn't bore you Quote originally posted by KingPrat Quote originally posted by 87srvsnow well...if that's what gets Ford cars sold, and makes the company profit, so they don't have to end up like GM, or Chrysler, i say good thinking Ford. I quit reading when you said ecoboost offers no weight savings, power savings, or mileage.. because you are wrong. I don't think it has our VCT phaser it it but what you are saying is incorrect. The ecoboost engine is one of the many new and upcoming engine enhancements. It is all about getting more power and fuel economy out of less.

I cant stand how the big three push out low quality vehicles, you want a real vehicle that is gonna run for a long time and wont give u any troubles get a Toyota, Honda, or Nissan. They all make quality vehicles that get good resale value.
My last toyota ran to 296,000 miles. (so I got the identical car)
My ford, pontiac, and chevy before I started buying Toyota didnt even get to that mileage combined!

waaaaaaaaa.
Since I don't own real vehicles they must be imatations, huh
my 99 f-250 145,000 still running strong. oil changes, tires and shocks nothing else.
my 92 f-150 245,000, engine, trans, tires, oil change. Previous owner ran a feed mill truck never shut off. Engine ran great, but so much blow by you could not keep oil in it. broke reverse band in trans and cheaper to get a used trans that fix it. truck hauls 2 face cord of wood evry 2 weeks in the early fall/winter. It is far from a car putzing around on the freeway. Gets the crap kicked out of it in the woods all winter also.
Wifes 00' lincoln ls has 105,000 oil changes, tires and a few sensors. Not bad considering the car is 90% electronics.
Every manufactor makes bad vehicles, every one.

Does GM still have their Australian Vauxhaul motor group since they dropped Pontiac? I must admit, the European divisions of our domestic car manufacturers make some decent cars. Plus, their always coming out with new concepts, unlike over here where it's follow the leader.

Excuse me. Sorry. It saves you about 30lbs overall. When you're talking about a 4300lb car, just drop in the ocean. Guess I should have said "negligible weight savings." This is between the MKS and the MKS with EcoBoost. (only curb weight I could find, basically the same car...)
A Pontiac G8 with a V8 engine making 355hp and weighing in at 3995lbs is rated at 15/24mpg, and costs about 6000 less than the Taurus SHO. Over the life span of the car, are you going to save $6000 in gas?? When you compare apples to apples, the Taurus weighs more, costs more, but gets about 5% better fuel mileage. Granted, yes, they're not the same car/same platform. You give me a better comparison and I'll read it with an open mind.
It's a marketing gimmick. Turbo-charging cars is not a new idea. Ford is just putting a new name on it and saying it's innovative technology. They'll sell a ton of cars, and thats awesome for them. I want them to succeed, but don't call it more than it really is.

My ford, pontiac, and chevy before I started buying Toyota didnt even get to that mileage combined!
cant say that foreigns last longer my mazda millenia s only lasted 106000 miles and the tranny was gone and the motor blew up
