I think... I think that they are just placed under the tunnel, and then riveted on.

yea, i know on a lot of polaris sleds that the coolers that run down the tunnel double as tunnel protectors, they should be about and inch and a half wide that run down your tunnel, and yes id put them on, you should be able to buy them from your local polaris dealer, if not that ive used old hyfax befor and rivited them on

you want your tunnel protectors to run along with your track clips, so if the track were to come up and hit the tunnel, they would hit the row of track clips instead, preventing the studs from tearing the tunnel all to hell

I know some Polaris sleds did come with protectors, mine did. If yours does have protectors already, you simply need to check the clearance between the stud and tunnel when the track is against the protector. I'd make sure there is at least a quarter inch. You don't want to add a protector ON TOP of the one you may already have in case there is not enough clearance for it, and if you put one NEXT to one you may already have, it won't do you any good.

Doesn't the pro x 440/800 have tunnel coolers which double as protectors. Not sure where or how you would mount them(protectors) as the coolers are over the track clips?

my dragon already has minor protectors too. is it not worth 100 dollars to have piece of mind that there is no way you will put a stud through your coolers? jesus christ some of the people on here are ****ing morons.

There is always the chance that you can pull a stud through and put it through a cooler even with the protectors.

if you're asking me, it depends on the sled. i think they kind of look like the sliders on a skid.

Where are you going to put the tunnel protectors if you buy them and there are already ones on the sled?? If you put them next to the existing ones, you won't be gaining anything and studs will gouge them up because they are not inline with the windows. This is considering that he studded everywhere on the track, obviously except for where the windows are located. If you put another protector on top of an existing one, then there may not be enough clearance. If there are no existing protectors then DEFINITELY put some in the tunnel, in line with the windows. It's simple, you have to think about these things. You can't just mindlessly do $h!t. Who's the ****ing moron?

I sure hope I'm not included me in your ****ing morons. Even if I'm not, this guy is obviously having problems and other people are trying to help him out. I am trying to explain to him what the tunnel protector does, and how it works. Instead of just telling him he does or doesn't need them I'm giving him a reason why he does or doesn't need them, hence educating him. Isn't that what this forum is all about, helping each other out?

Jeremy78 is right, you can get protectors at Dennis Kirk or any other distributor. Sliders will work too if they are the correct thickness for ya.

I apologize for turning this thread into a bitch fest and for the sake of everyone else and PolarisPuglia, I will not respond to any other off topic comments.

Okay, now I'm less confused, but still confused. haha. Im new to this to bear with me...my old sled just had the front cooler and the ones under the running boards. Maybe if i take a pic it will help...but I have the two strips going north/south on the right and left side of the tunnel (like, under where the seat goes, right above the track) I thought these were just coolers holding coolant and I needed something to protect THOSE from the studs hitting/ripping out? That is incorrect though now Im thinking? If I'm reading correctly those strips do both?

does the underneath of your tunnel look somewhat like this? if so, then you already have protectors and you're all set.

NO it does not. where your two strips are white, mine look like the front cooler. theyre metal and have the ridges. they look like a longer/narrow front cooler instead.

some of the older sleds had metal tunnel protectors. i think you're good to go. if it was me, i would still go to my dealer and see what they had to say about it.
