I got a 1981 Yamaha 440 SS from my dad. Its got a couple problems, but the one of main concern is the throttle. For some reason it is stuck closed and i cant seem to get it open again. If you have any info that i could use on how to get it unstuck it would be very appreciated. Thank you!

do you mean the blade in the carb is stuck closed? if so i would just pull the carb, take out the float, and soak the carb in some parts cleaner for an hour. or if its wedged shut for some reason try tapping it from the back Very lightly with a wooden dowel or something like that

Im not totally sure if thats it, but i will try it out tomorrow. thanks. but if this helps i try and press down on the trigger and it wont move any linkage or cables, so i will first try the carb.

First disconnect the cable from the carb and see if the cable moves and if it does then you know its in the carb. When was the last time it was ran? If its been a while I would take the carb off and pull it apart and clean it real good. Clean the fuel take out and put in a new fuel filter. Lube the throtle cable real good. and check the brakes. Dont want it taking off across the yard at WOT and not have any brakes.

Thanks. I took the carb off today and I am starting the cleaning process. I found that the throttle valve was stuck.
