I have a 1998 xc 700. I am going to put a different track on because the one i have is trash. I found one from a 2000 formula. The one i have now has all open windows and is fully clipped. The one i found is clipped every third window and every third window is closed. Will this track work on my sled without causing any problems?

Should work just fine as long as they are the same otherwise.

The ripsaw I put on my 98 xc700 is clipped every third and shes fine. I think clipping every third is for weight saving purposes. I'm not sure why they sometimes leave every third window closed, better flotation maybe? As long as its 15" x 121" it'll work fine.

a lot of the newer better tracks are every third window, its pretty common now. i believe both Luke and XLT96 have it right: to save weight and better flotation

-xenon low-beam bulb (very helpful at night)

Just add gas and snow!

Yea less clips save weight, although if you run in low snow conditions alot then the extra protection of full clips is a good idea. Full clips should also be used with window drives. Don't forget to double check your pitch which is most likely 2.52

If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

If there is any choice, overpower the problem rather than trying to finesse it. In poker, one Smith and Wesson beats four aces. In engineering, one positive fix beats four probables.

as long as the track is a 121x15 with a 2.52 pitch it would work.

Also don't forget to check lug clearance. You should be able to fit at least 1.25"

I took the skid out last night. I have a shop manual that i downloaded off the internet. It says that on the left side of the sprocket shaft there is a lock collar. And that you lossen that then take the flagette off. I can't find any lock collar there is one anywhere on that shaft. Did the 1998 xc 700 not comewith a lock collar or is this a problem?
