You dont want anyting that heavy. I use polaris synthetic chain case oil or amsoil synthetic chain case oil. Lots of guys also run regular old ATF. All these oils are pretty close to 30 weight, so 80w-90 is was too heavy. Best bet, run whatever a polaris dealer tells you your sled should have, that way theres no question. Might not be the VERY best thing there is to run, but you certainly wont see any gains by using the BEST available chain case oil.

^^^^I agree. 80w90 gets way too thick in cold temps. I use ATF.
I need big jugs on my sled, cuz my girl doesn't.

Somebody I know runs 80w90 but I agree that it is way to thick. You never had any reliability issues with ATF?

I use Amsoil synthetic chaincase oil in mine. I've also used a couple other Chaincase specific oils with no problems. In a pinch I would not hesitate to use ATF.
80w90 is not designed to be used in a chaincase environment. It is to be used in a gear meshing scenario, like that of a differential. ATF is used in transfer cases, which utilize a chain/sprockets, like that of a chaincase.

In the past I have always used the arctic cat brand however this year I just put in regular old ATF. I don't see what harm it will do, not to mention I have never heard any complaints by those on here of it not working properly. NWR

Another vote for ATF! A gallon of it is cheaper then a pint of the "chaincase oil".

No issues after years of running it. Like ACM said, cars and trucks run it that cost a lot more than our sleds do. Transmissions and transfercases are basically just gears and chains.

Agreed, im currently running amsoil severe gear 75W90 and no problems here. a chain and sprockets is obviously a very simple design and does not require anything in particular, as long as its lubricated. Hell, in a tight situation when you need to get home, you could use 2 stroke oil.
