Got around to pulling the sleds out last weekend to get them ready...driveshaft and skid bearing replacements, etc. While my 99 ZL600 was on the stand over the summer, the plastic broke on both bolt holes in the rear bumper. An idiotic design in my opinion...all plastic.

Is there a bumper I could use off a different sled (with at least a metal core) that would fit? I hate the idea of 60 bucks for another plastic one just to see it break out again at some point. Thought about a Polaris rear bumper, but holes are off a bolt width, so would mean a pretty oblong hole, as well as some bending and stuff to make it slightly wider.

Figure I can put holes in back of tunnel for the flap if need be.

Any insight on what anyone has done would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You might be able to fit a '98 rear bumper setup on your '99. They are the same chassis, so I imagine they would have the same mounting holes. The '98 had a metal bumper that was covered with a plastic cover. You could actually just use the metal bumper alone if you wanted to...it doesn't look as clean though.

Just a thought...

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion. Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

Its funny you should say that! The exact same thing happened to me as well, really makes me wonder. . . all I could do is buy a new bumper. Overall though I must say that they are a pretty good sled.

They must have changed in 99 because my 98 ZL has steel with a platic jacket on top.
Part of the plastic is cracked and I can still lift up the back end no problem.

It was probably a way to shave weight by taking out the metal.
