the ultra i picked up a couple weeks ago has metal skies unfortunatelly, so i need to throw some plastic ones on it.
i really like the color variety of the slydog skis and i hear they are good skis that are well worth the money, im thinking of getting the powderhounds but since their made mainly for powder i just wanted to make sure they will work good on hardpack trails, and limited snow conditions too since we dont get a whole helluva lot of snow here in bridgeport ny.. would i be better off just getting the trail or race version instead or maybe look into a different brand of ski or go for the slydog powderhounds? just looking for some input, so any that i can get would be great..

I have the Slydog trail skis on my fusion 600ho. I like them a lot. I opted to save a little money and not get the wider hounds, but they would both work about the same on the trail. The hounds would offer more floatation in the deeper stuff. I'd also recommend SLP's (slt's worked great on my ultra and I've heard their powder ski works equally as well and offers better deep snow floatation...good luck.

I've got the trail version and even they have great flotation. Either version will serve you well, but if you'd like to save a few dollars (like I did) I'd recommend the trail version. I run the 6" Shaper Bars on mine and love the ski set up.

What are the differences between the trail and Race versions? Is it like some different material, bracing I can't figure it out. Are they more aggressive?

They probably have a lot more aggressive keel. I've been looking actually at the simmons flex skis. 10" wide. Talk about super flotation.

I have the slydog powderhounds on my sled. They are really nice. They work well on the trail/hardpack as well as the powder and ice. You really can't beat em. As for the colors, i'd go with something that has black in it to match your sled.

I just ordered Slydog Powderhound skis from KJ motorsports about 5 or 6 weeks ago. I got the black and red swirl with a red handle. At first I was very dissatisfied with the skis. Yea, they look cool and everything, and the ski molds came out good, but any work that was done by hand was extremely shoddy! I got the skis and the holes they drilled for the carbides were about 1/8" - 1/4" off center so the carbide would not mount right. I called KJ motorsports and the guy was clueless. He said they just sent the order to the factory and I had received the skis factory direct, so I would have to call them, but after complaining he took care of calling the factory. Terrible customer service... After waiting a week with no one getting back to me to let me know what they were going to do for me, I randomly got a UPS return slip in the mail, apparently they wanted me to just ship them back without letting me know what was going on. I waited 3 more weeks and finally got them back in the mail. THE HOLES WERE STILL OFF CENTER! I said F%@* it and just threw them in because Slydog was sust a PITA to deal with. Again, the skis LOOK cool and everything, but the work other than the mold was Shoddy... Hopefully they are as great as everyone says they are because so far this has been an awful experience.

thanks for all the input, ive decided the red/black swirl would just be too much red, so im going to go with the blue/black swirl but still debating on the color of the handles, what do you think?

yea i liked the idea of the red handles to match the other red on the sled, but just not sure how they would look on a blue/black ski...do you guys think it would be too goofy lookin?

I have SLP powder pros and they are BY FAR the best ski i have run. I have tried both the simmons slydogs and the c&a razor race skis and neither were as good as the powder pros. They handle excellent on hardpack and soft trails and float even better in the deeper stuff. I truly believe that ski is the best all around ski on the market IMO.

just seen that i had a voicemail from bergstroms, must have missed his call so ill call back tomorrow, anyway, he called regarding the shims, he wanted to know which rubber stops my skis have, from what he was saying slydog made 2 different ones for their skis and one is thicker then the other.. im not real sure which ones i have since the skis havent arrived yet, just orderd them today. i know there is 2 different mounting kits for polaris, 1 for the IQ/fusion chassis and one for all the others, is this what makes the difference in which size stops you get? it must be, right? anyone know???
also, if anyone was curious, i ended up getting powderhounds, blue/black swirl with blue loops, bergstrom triple point skegs and ski savers..
