I've got a 01 xc 700, got a legend performance head, reeds, and some clutching that came with the kit. Not satisfied with the top end. I want more top end but without losing too much accel. I know theres a fine line but id like to know if im there right now. Im running 150psi per cyl. stock is 125. 100mph on radar. The higher compression could be killing top end, should i be going the gearing route? If i were to change gearing what gear would i change? i appreciate any imput.

Just keep on keepin on!! Lets Go Ridin

First, you want to make sure you get full shift out. You can chalk the clutch sheaves and run it wide open for a 1/4 mile or so. Now pull the belt off and look for chalk. If you have some on the primary, try heavier weights, a clutch kit will also give you a stiffer primary spring for higher rpm engagement. If you have chalk left on the secondary sheaves, you could try a more aggresive helix. Gearing should be pretty close for most riders. A light rider can gear up a little, otherwise stock is the best for top end. Good Luck
