My xc 700 is flooding for no apparent reason. I had the carbs off for a while waiting for a new jet. I twisted the old one too far and broke it off. After i put it back on it started first pull and ran for a while. It idled pretty slow and then died. I started it again this time having to put on about quarter Throttle. Then it idle for a while again(slowley) then died. This time it wouldn't start again. I drained the crank and there was quite a bit of fuel in there. It's not the pump. all diaphrams are perfect. What could this be and how do i fix it. I'm assuming the slow idle is also part of a too much fuel problem because the crabs were synced last spring.

Main jet??

If the jet is broke, it's going to pull a ton of fuel into the engine.

You sure there is not a piece from the old jet, i.e.-threads laying in the main jet opening?

I would agree, check the needle and seat make sure there is no dry rot also check the floats make sure they are not stuck. You could try tapping on the float bowls and see if it fixes the stuck float. But that doesnt always work. Definately take the carbs apart and blow out the jets with compressed air. After all of this it couldnt hurt to throw in new plugs.

I think the seats are bad. When i held the needle and slide all the way down i could blow onthe main jet and blow through fairly easily. Isn' tsupposed to be sealed?

Your talking about the jet needle right. The inlet needle is good. I can hold the 5 lbs of air on it and it held. I adjusted the float so that it is level with the carb body when it's tiltedo n it's side. So you thing get a new needle seat?
