Hello everyone, I'm brand new to the forum because I'm seeking some info on an engine I have. I bought a yamaha golf cart and it has a snowmobile engine transplanted in it. I'm trying to figure out what year(s) make and model sled that it could have possibly come out of. When I need to order some parts, I figured that it will be easier finding parts based on the snowmobile not just the engine itself. It is definately a CCW KEC-340. It says that right on the tag of the engine. There isn't any other info after the KEC-340 like /5 or /22a or anything else.... just KEC-340. Here is what I know about the engine:
The serial number is 2909588
It has a Tillotson carb on it model number HR84A
The fan belt is a Bando A25 belt
The spark plug wires have the name KYORITSU on them
The spark plugs are NGK B8HS
The two light gray coils have the same part number on them #4407ACOE (the "O" at the end of the part number could be a zero also)
There isn't an electric start on it, but you can see where one would mount on the side of the engine.
I think that it may have come from:
A....1970 Scorpion Mark II 339cc
B....1971 Scorpion Mark II or StingerII 339cc
C....1972 John Deere 400 model
If anyone can confirm or rule out any of the above please let me know.
Tech questions:
Does anyone know what the correct Fuel to Oil ratio would be for this application?
One last question pertaining to the exhaust on the older "vintage" snowmobiles, especially with the above type engine. Did the older sleds use expansion tubes as well as a muffler setup? Just a muffler? What is the best design to have with this motor? Right now it has a dual flex tubing going back to a pair of old motorcyle mufflers, and it doesn't run bad (it's loud as hell) but I was told it will run much better with the correct type of exhaust. Is there a way to quiet down the noise level on these engines?
Thanks in Advance for any insight you may be able to provide.....Regards, Mark
