If many of you out there are anything like me (too cheap or poor), who can not afford, or are unwilling to pay the prices for a new sled, here is a good way to upgrade your ride.

I start with a 93 Wildcat.

Next, upgrade the suspension to any from 97 or newer.
I got an 01 ZR skid.

You can see how much more travel I gained.
This suspension is coupled so that the front and rear work together to absorb the bumps.

I took it out yesterday and ripped around in the wet grass. It positively "floats" over the bumps and dips. My friend Scott was over for a couple of brews and he tried it out. He said that it almost felt like he was on his 04 T660.

Since this sled is EFI, it starts easily every time so it does not need electric start.
Now the only thing I really would like to add is a reverse.

I would like to see a nice full side profile shot of the sled with that skid installed. Nice job!

I guaranty you are going to fall in love with your sled all over again.!
This is by far the single best mod that can be made on a pre 98 Cat.
2 yr's ago I put a 98ZR skid under My 90 Prowler, and have never looked back.
This last spring I picked up a 98 EXT Triple, and promptly installed a 2k1 ZR skid under it.
Your back will give you unending thank's for the future pounding's it won't be taking from your sled.
With the AWSII that you have in that sled, you can also put 3/4" to 1" longer front shock's in and increase your front travel, and level the ride height.

Awesome! So I could probably do this in my dad's 94 EXT too? How much did it cost? How difficult was it? And how did everything line up?

I suppose a '76 Pantera is too old to recieve such treatment?

The cost for me was $80 for the skid and gas to drive 360 miles round trip to get it.
I had to drill new front holes 2" forward for the front arms and the rear just used the same ones.

For that 76, you could put in one from a 90-93 which would be nearly double what it has now.
The skid from the 93 I rebuilt and it is going into a 90 frame for a project that is a "from the ground up" build.

Let me just say that it will be easier to keep at the front of the pack than it has been with the longer travel ride. I usually have the oldest sled in the group and have no problem keeping up with the guys with the new sleds anyway.
This will just make it that much easier to stay in front.

Old Cat Rider, let's say I did put that '90-'93 skid in the Pantera, wht do you think I could do to sort of balance the rear height and front height out being as I don't have A arms and shocks?

You would have to tie the front arms down a lot or mount them somewhat higher in the tunnel to get the weight balanced.

The skid cost me $125
It came out of a ZR500

The shock's I got for $100
They came off an XCR700

And I got the Kimpex Shotgun 1 1/4" track for $185 Brand New!
I got all those on EBay

The Ski's are Kimpex Plastic's that I got from Spankys Part's for $200 /set
The Carbide's are StudBoyz 9" Duelly's I also got from Spanky's
I ordered and paid for the 6" Duelly's around $150 for the set, but they sent Me the 9" by mistake.

So the total I come up with there is right around $760, but that was spread out across at least 2 yr's

I originally paid $700 for the sled about 4 yr's ago, with around 1300 mile's on it.

So total investment at this point is close to $1500
Not too bad for 4 season's, and 3300 mile's (the sled now has 4600 on it, and the motor's never been rebuilt.)

I think I've done prety well for what I've got into it.

Rick

Actually I forgot to add $180 for the custom seat cover, and about another $150 or so for the 3 1/2" Rox riser, and Powermadd handguard's.
Plus this yr I added a lefty throttle kit to it

IT NEVER END'S!!!

WHAT!!! I have never seen them go that cheap. Heck I paid 500 for mine last year or two years ago.

Sleds are looking great guys! Nice work RJ! I want to do the AGLT mod to my sled but can't justify the costs.

I'll get some better pics of it next time I have it outside.
Just changed the chain sprockets from the 23/39 to the 20/40 tooth for more low end pull.

Matt
I probably typo'd that price on the Track, It was actually $260 + $15 for shipping, so $285 total.

Also
I picked up all the A Arm's, with spindle's to do the 43" AGLT on My EXT for $60 at a swap meet.
Then I found a freshly rebuilt set of Fox clicker's for it for $100 at another swap meet!
Once I finish either making or buying the rest of the part's for it, I'll most likely have less than $225 in that conversion.
I'm gonna ride the sled with the stock front end on it this season, so I can fully appreciate the AGLT mod next year.
