I'd like to say hi to every1 since I'm new here. ok so here's my plan, I was given a yamaha enticer 340 deluxe 1015 miles on it. it's somewere between 1978 to 1981 I think. since I hate the cold weather I'm converting it to a street machine. meaning that I removing the whole track and suspension setup, I'm going to have the square driveshaft milled down to a round one so I can install a sprocket onto it and run a chain back to a sprocket conected to a rim.(go-kart rim) which will be sucured by two pillow block bearings with another keyed driveshaft. and maybe a disc brake setup if the rear wheel isn't to wide. the front wheels are not yet planned. looking for ideas. that's basicly it. sorts like a T-REX. wat do you think.sounds fun rite. I will keep you guys updated on my progress. won't start till the pistons come in.does any1 know anything about enticer 340's. they seem pretty rare.

It will over heat and melt down. Wouldnt bother wasting your money unless you get a liquid cooled engine.
EDIT: Awsome video I take back what I said about being a waste of money. But I still think it would over heat and melt down wouldnt it?
If you cant fix it with duct tape, tylnol, or band aids your screwed.

You can buy kits i think but they are expensive, and I don't think a fan cooled machine would go over well

I don't think I will have a problem with over heating. think about small engines (lawn mower, tractor) only cooled by the flywheel.

i think there are some differences in fan sizes and such cuz i got a friend who built a go kart and put an indy 440 fan cooled in it it lasted a few weeks but eventually had a meltdown

what if u made a larger fan for it. to boost airflow? say like another fan to further cooling?

I like your creativity, but don't waste the time. If you don't like the cold, just sell that sled and buy a cheap quad and you'll save yourself a huge headache..

Wow you guys are dumb.
If you use a liquid cooled engine, then there's this little invention, you might have heard of it before? Its called a radiator! Yes you can fit a small air/water radiator into a snowmobile engine cooling system and convert it for use during warmer weather provided you jet it accordingly. Wow, just imagine, with a little thinking you can actually make an idea work. That's an amazing concept isn't it.

i kno that already powersledder, just something different, to make a fan cooled engine last longer in warmer weather. the concept of the idea. sure it can be done with a liquid cooled motor. but a fan? based on what others said in this post, fanners won't last more than a few weeks.

I just don't know what your trying to accomplish, why not just buy a older quad? Why spend the time and money making something less capable than a old quad when you can get one cheaper??

I'm not trying to accomplish much. just a personal project. I would like to use a 1000cc efi but the 340 was FREE so I'm using that. I have an older quad 88 Suzuki lt230e quadrunner and a go kart yerf dogg 2 seater roll cage..ect it's to small for me I'm selling both. the idea sounds real fun and it rare to see. I figure about $150-$200 if that to build this machine. I'll install a head temp gauge or an egt to make sure it doesn't overheat. that fan idea sounds good. g2g be back later
(powersledder) how the hell am I suppose to put a radiator on a fan cooled sled. WOW YOUR DUMB

you can make a fan cooled engine work, there are many threads about snowmobile engines on go karts, on DIYgokarts.com
the problem with a fan cooled is that the engine will just be blowing hot air form outside, and even hotter air from the engine, which will not do much in the cooling department. you could make a shroud that comes out of the side or something, to a cooler place in the hood. basically the same principal of an airbox. to get clean, cooler air, that isn't heated form the engine.
Bambi would have been a better and shorter movie if he was shot in the beginning with his mother
if a ride on lawn mower takes bumps better than your sled, its time to upgrade

The main reason you kids have blown up those fan cooled engines is because you used an improper exhaust and melted a piston.
Using the correct exhaust pipe and jetting for the warmer temps will make the engine last a long time. His idea is good, all I would add is that he also makes some additional venting/ducting in the hood to improve air flow to keep things cool under there.

First off if powerlsedder read the post before he started bashing us he would have seen that exit9teen is workin with a fan cooled motor not a liquid and what oldcatrider said is correct but you can still have a meltdown the friend i noted earlyer who did this had the original sled exhaust modded into the chassis of the go kart and he still had a meltdown but the addition of venting and an exterior air flow box sonds like your onto something

heat wraping the exhaust, improving air flow through the hood, and doing sum kind of cold air intake should cut down on the heat quite abit. just for precaution.

Not only were you a dick but you didnt make any sense to what anyone said? I said a liquid cooled would be a better idea. And I think that was the only extent to it. Your post was a complete fail. FAIL FAIL FAIL!!! Wow you ticked me off.

I personally like the idea, sounds like more of a personal goal and something that not everyone has done. Like quads and gokarts. Why not give it a shot... if the motor fails then upgrade revamp and call it a day. If you have the knowledge and tools anything is possible. For that matter you could go as far as fabbing a waverunner motor and figuring that out. But if your working with free parts then to the shop you go. Worse case scenario you blow a freebie motor. *On a side note* be safe when welding to not burn it down literally as was done in a post read on here the other day.
Good luck to you. (keep us posted)

I want to thank the ones who gave there support. as for the suspension i'm not doing any just mounting the pillow blocks to the side running boards with the axle through them. I could use a swing arm from a motorcycle. that's alot more work and requires fabricating a frame inside the tunnel for reinforcement and mounting the shock. I will borrow a digital camera and post progress so far. I have the complete track and suspension off.
