Well I kinda stepped into this one unexpectedly.
My Boss decided to sell his 2000 Astro AWD for $500 because it was making some bad noise's at the front diff.
So I bought it, pulled the fuse to disable the electronic transfer case
pulled out the front drive shaft
took out and disassembled both half shaft's
then reinstalled the stub end's from the half shaft's to hold the bearing pack's together.
I now have a fully functioning 2WD van and have only invested the original purchase price.

195,000 on the clock, and everything work's perfectly, except the radio which like's to turn itself on/off randomly.

Look's like I'll be donating My 93 to My son, when he get's his license back.

Good buy Rick.
Just make sure it doesn't end up like your brothers.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I've never had a real need for 4WD, and since it was pretty much useless when I bought it, I can't miss what I did'nt have.

My brother is on his third vehicle since I've had my 93 Stro, but he's alway's had better luck with truck's than car's.

Saw your pics on the home page last Saturday but didn't see your post until now! Gotta love those deals when they come along....

It's all about the ride to get there, the destination doesn't matter!

Yeah it was just too good a deal to let pass.
My 93 still run's great, and with 265,000 on it is still able to get 22 mpg when driven correctly!
However due to some minor structural problem's, I haven't been able to tow with it for the past 2 year's.
That's the main reason We've been using My brother's vehicle's to go to Isabella the past couple of year's.
We'll be bringing the Stro up there this year, as it has a "LOT" more room for gear storage than Randy's S10 does.
The 2K has the same tranny and rear diff as the 93, so It's really not much different to drive than the 93.
It does have torsion bar's up front rather than spring's, so it has a little more body roll to it, but not too bad.
All in all for $500 I'm sure not gonna complain.

I do need to give a shout out to the guy's at www.astrosafarivans.org for helping Me figure out the conversion.
Without the info I discovered over there, It probably would have cost Me another $500-$1000 to fix something I don't really need.
