hey i was just wondering how many people have ever found a nice old sled sitting out behind some random house or somewheres someone thought was junk. for example we found my thundercat one time looking at a snowmobile trailer. it was an aluminum trailer and it was parked behind this guys house. when we went to go look at the trailer my sled was sitting behind it and under a tarp. the guy said it sat there 4 2 years. not started cuz the engine was "seized" we bought the trailer and he threw the sled in 4 free to get rid of it. we took it home put the sled out back of our garage for a year. after a year i decided to pull it in and take a look at it. i brought it in looked it over and the sled was MINT with a new kimpex track! the only problem was that the engine didnt turn over. so i tore it apart. 3 days 3wiseco pistons, full winderosa seal set, new bearings crank and balancing rod and some gasket maker later i was driving it out of the garage and have been riding it ever since and the sled dominates.

a few years ago my dads friend found a 1972 TNT 440 chained to a tree in the woods while riding the quads. they dragged it back and took it to our garage and we had it running with a good carb cleaning and new fuel lines and a belt.

that sled had hydraulic brakes, slider rear suspennsion which means it was the best version of the TNT440 you could get.

once it was running we took it around the yard a few times with no snow and then a crank bearing let go and the motor stopped dead.it was fun while it lasted and i cant complain cuz it must have been sitting for 20 years just chained to a tree.

I got a old scorpian whip 440 that was in a barn for 15yrs for $5 ,had 800 miles on it and was near mint.Rode it for a year and sold it for $250.

Got this indy trail for $70 cause they guy didnt know how to make it run, cleaned the carbs and put about $30 into it and it ran good.

This indy 650 was sitting outside in a pickup box trailer, got it for $100 and just needed to solder a coil wire to make it run.

I got my '73 Moto-Ski Capri 340 from my brother's boss. It was sitting in his barn about half way buried in a hay stack. I dragged it out and gave him $50 for it. He as going to just give it to me, but my brother told me he payed $50 for it so I thought I'd return the favor.

My '79 El Tigre Cross Country came from a friend of my brother's a few years ago. They belonged to a different friend and they were supposed to move down south so they sold them (this one and a '79 Jag 3000) to these other friends. Anyway, they rode it and let it sit in a field for many years. I got it for $70. In the condition its in I could easily sell it for several hundred.

Who ever decides to talk a peek in a little trail behind my house, they are sitting on a gold mine! back there is a 1988 polaris indy 400 with no motor, a chassis & suspentions remaining of a 1989 polaris indy 400, a 19?? yamaha exel 340 that ran last year, a 19?? yamaha ovation, another crashed 1989 polaris indy 400 classic, three 19?? skidoo citation 250, one 1989 skidoo tundra LT 250, a 199? yamaha phazer, a few old chassis of old elans and john deere liquid fires, a 1990 polaris indy sprint 340, and old elan, and a 19?? polaris trail boss 250 ATV, an old pickup truck cap, and a 1994 arctic cat jag 440. most ran when parked in the bush, some been there for months, some for years, some for over 15 years. theres also a couch and three lawn chaires back there, along with a pile of arctic cat parts and an old toilet(gross).

the only picture i have is of the artic cat parts, but imagine that but time 6.

But for deals or sled i found would be:

-I bought a 1991 polaris iny 650 that ran for a two-four of budwiser, and an identical 1991 polaris indy 650 for $70, which was like new, and ran mint, but the rear suspention kept bottoming out. I had about $200 into them, drove the all winter and summer(yes down shorline and through the fields, the accational ride through the dirt) and sold them a week ago for $550.

-I found a 1998 Polaris Xc 600 with a blown track & blown head gasket, i gave him $500, and took it home and parted it out, made $1300 on the deal.

-The only thing i found was a 1989 polaris Indy 400 classic (mentioned above, now rests crashed in bush), i found it in field behind a burnt down abandonedhouse, it was decent, cracked hood, dented pipe, ripped seat, but i got it running with new gas lines, a good cleaning, clean carbs, alot of grease and penatrating oil, new plugs and stuff and it ran petty good, but was totally ritten off after it hit a rock face @ 50MPH.

this year I'm riding a '79 exciter i got out the junk yard for free, all it needed was a good carb cleaning and about $60 in parts, engine still has 125 psi in each cylinder. them main problem is the speedometer is in Km instead of mph

Thats no problem at all, jsut guesstimate speed.

I would rather appreciate things I cannot have than have things I cannot appreciate.

Sleds:
1996 Polaris XCR 600 SP (needs newer track)
1978 Arctic Cat El Tigre 5000 (needs cleats)
1976 Arctic Cat Pantera 5000 F/A (doesn't run)

I found a 1971 johnson 440 just laying out in the woods at my uncles house. I asked him and he told me to take it that it hasn't ran in four years. One day later and a new belt, carbs, and spark plugs I had it running I was surprised how fast that thing was or maybe I was just so little.. That sled got me hooked!!

1997 xlt 600 running great now.

Our Father, who art on mountains
Himark be thy name
May snowfall come
on mountain peeks and lower valleys
give us this day with blue bird skies
and show us the way to abundant powder
and lead us not into avalanche conditions
But deliver us to eternal powder
for LIFE is the powder, the slope, and the glory
for ever and ever HIMARK
