Today some d-bag dropped a 4x8x3/4in. sheet of plywood on my toe. My sock is all bloody and what not. I know my nail is going to fall off, nasty. Anywho, I got home put my gear on and went riding with my friend and he got a 2005 rev mxzx 800 with Starting line performance head, or was it Straight line performance I don't remember. It's a pretty decent sled but overall I am not impressed. It doesn't lift the ski's nearly as much as my sno pro. Got to get my $75(wtf!) throttle cable and then I'm going to race him, I'll post the results. I was riding my dad's srx and I could walk all over that rev. About 30 minutes later he blows a head gasket. He says thats twice since he started talking to the seller of the sled. He is going to sell the aftermarket head and buy a stock one, I'm guessing for reliability reasons.
His sled is a little dirty but he is going to clean it up.

Dude, if his 800 doesn't walk all over the 440 then there is something seriously wrong.

His sled is geared low because it was going to be a water-cross sled but I guess it didn't happen. It tops out at 95 and it's fast at getting there but not as quick as my sno pro gets up to 80.

Ya I'm lieing, you caught me. No, I have no reason to lie. Maybe there is something wrong with his sled, but I wasn't impressed.
Anyone know about smashed toe/finger nails? I think it's going to fall off but I don't know. I just don't want to wake up and the nail is gone and there is blood all over my bed.

Sounds to me like hes not making sure that the o-ring is in place correctly, or hes not torquing the head right. Also, I could be ENTIRELY wrong, and probably am, but that looks a lot more like an 03 with a delete kit than an 05?

He didn't put the last head gasket in, the seller did which I guess is a mechanic so you would think he knew what he was doing, maybe not. My friend says it's an 05. Anyway to tell just by looking at it?

That 800 has no chance of beating your 440, your 440 is a race sled, duh!

I don't mean that my 440 is the greatest machine. I know his 800 should wax me left and right because it's nearly double the cc's as me. He said the gearing is really low, and he said it only goes 95mph. I got to about 70 on it and it seemed to be slower to get there than my 440. I guess there has to be something wrong with his sled then.
Just got a text from him he says it's an 05 800 h.o. v-force 3 reeds and the straightline performance head.

Ummmm even being a 440 race sled I dont think it should beat an 800.
Why your 440 would take it sounds like there is a major issue with it. Maye he got ripped off and doesnt want to admit that to you so he just says its geared lower. Because that sounds like its geared really low.
If you cant fix it with duct tape, tylnol, or band aids your screwed.

Also, to make sure, check the rear suspension. That should have the SC-3, while the 05 x package has the SC-4 skid.

^^exactly right, those are 04 panels, meaning he could have traded yellow panels for the current black panels. It looks like an 03 seat, beavertail delete. The suspension is not visible enough to see whether or not it's a scIII or sc4. If it's an SCIII it's an 03 or 04 sled.
If you look at the VIN plate on the side of the sled you should be able to tell easily when the date of manufacture was and settle any questions that you have about it.

I looked at it today, and the tunnel says it is a 2005 500ss. So I asked him if he was sh!tt!ng me about that it is a 800. He swears it is a 800. The motor is an 03 800 because I went with him to get a new head gasketand the dealer showed us all these diagrams of an 03 vs an 05. The plastics are mis-matched because it used to have yellow side panels that came with the sled and are all broken up. So I'm thinking this thing got smashed!
Oh well.
My toe you ask nhrider, still on but still bleeding.

Now your just lying hard.
You can't see much from these pictures, because we just got back from a ride in fresh snow. First one is an SC-4, second is an SC-10 III. Your buddies has an SC-10 III, or an SC-3, because the slope on the back of that rails towards the back wheels is different between the 2. I could be entirely wrong. The sled could have been in a hard wreck prior to him owning it, and the guy could only get his hands on 03' parts. Or maybe, he bought the chassis, and had a wrecked 03 with a good motor, a-arms, and seat. He also doesn't have the set of blocks halfway up the rails from what I can see.
03' X package on the left, 05' ( all models ), to the right.
Those are 04' 500ss panels.
Seems to me like he has 2003 trail shocks also with a set of 03' 800 spindles.
Seat is an 03 seat.
I'm not there to examine the sled personally, so I can't make any calls on it if it's an 03, 04, or even an 05. The tunnel does look like an 05 though, because it seems like theres an exchanger on it, as well as a reflector under the back bumper. But, there is no tail light on it. Seems to me like the sled has had a very very rough life.
Call a ski-doo dealer, and have them run the VIN to see if it's ever had major work done to it.

You say I'm lying? but yet everything you said doesn't make me wrong. 1)I said it was an 05 tunnel 2)I agreed with you guys that it has plastic from other years 3) I think it has had a rough life also, so basically it's been peiced together from atleast 2 different sleds.

But to go that far where you need new a-arms, shocks, seat, and suspension, no wonder why you beat him. He probably has 440 gearing as well, but it probably runs like such a turd that it doesn't help. Guy got ripped off hard if he paid over 2200 for it I'd say.

A different seat, or a different set of shocks isn't going to make it slower...but ya I get your point it's a pile frankendoo. I only beat him on my dad's srx, still waiting for the throttle cable to come in for the sno pro.
Oh and the price, well sledcrusher you wouldn't be to proud of him.

I'm under 2100 deep into my Rev, and it runs great and goes great now. If I was him, I would dig into that motor. If he knows how to work on them, tell him to tear it down. If not, bring it to a dealer and have them do it.
