Hello all, I am new to the forum. I have an 84 Ski-Doo Safari 447. It seems that a few critters have made my airbox a home and it is full of acorns. Any suggestions as to how i can clean it out without taking the airbox out. It seems that it would take some time to remove the box. And since the sled is old i dont want to take the chance of breaking any lines or parts. I was able to remove the carb and I tried a shop vac, but i could not get it to the bottom of the box. Any ideas?

Hmm, I was going to mention a shop vac but i guess that wont work. Maybe a smaller vaccum or do it the old fashioned way and pick them out, one by one. But if its that old there shouldn't be too much to take off. You already got the easy to break stuff off, now a few nuts later it might be out.

I would rather appreciate things I cannot have than have things I cannot appreciate.

Sleds:
1996 Polaris XCR 600 SP (needs newer track)
1978 Arctic Cat El Tigre 5000 (needs cleats)
1976 Arctic Cat Pantera 5000 F/A (doesn't run)

My hands are too big to reach down into the box. Maybe i could try a more flexible hose.

Every airbox I have ever seen has been in 2 parts...a top and a bottom. They cannot manufacture an airbox in one piece...well they prob could but it would not be cost effective. Just rip it out and apart, clean it up with some cleaner and rags and put it back together. If your gas lines are that fragile and dried out...you should replace those as well before a line brakes and catches your sled on fire....or leaves you stranded. Just my .02

Was able to get shop vac hose down into airbox. Sucked out 12 acorns. Out on the lake today and it ran great. Thanks for input.

How do you know if there was something in the carbs? You could have had a much bigger issue than a few acorns in your airbox.

I was able to unscrew where throttle cable goes into carb. I took out a sleeve and there was the acorn, stopping the sleeve from seating into place. It was in essence locking my throotle at full. Adorns are out and sled runs great.

Well i hope you got all the crap out of the airbow cause if there is anything else in the it will be sucked into the carb and engine. If it was my sled I would have taken the box off and took it apart and cleaned it and changed the fuel and oil lines AND CLEAND THE CARBS.
Prevetative mantenanice now so I wouldn't have to be taking it apart again soon.
