ok i have a 96 polaris ultra sp and two of the carbs air screws ar at 1 turn out but the other cylinder will not fire while idling at one turn out so i let the screw in to about a 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn and it started to fire on that cylinder at idle will this harm the sled in any way with one of the three carbs being set differently?

Have you taken all 3 carbs apart?? I would be looking at pilot jets, when you turn the air screw in your richening the mix, and if the sled is stock with #50 pilots I find it hard to believe that you would have to richen it more.

i just bought it first i thought it was the jet needle and i bought a new one and put it in the i started to mess with the air screw and the more i tuned it in the more it would fire on that cylinder the guy i bought it from had slp pipes on it and 380 mains but i never took the pilot jets out

I had a little different take on his statement. Why would that cylinder start to fire on a richer mixture?

NateP are you talking actually firing or just a smoother idle?

Edit: I guess Nate answered while I was typing

Try doing one step at a time, First step would be take carbs apart and clean them, paying particular attention to your pilots, reset air to 1 turn out fron seat then try running it. Let us know how that's working.

already tried that and it still wouldnt fire first i cleaned them then i changed the jet needle (old one was coroded) then i started to mess with the air screw i did these all one at a time then i just tried to take the pilot jet out to see if it was the right one and of coarse it fell apart while i tried to take it out so now i dont know what else to do

You need the right jet needle to match the needle jet. the JN # is 6-CEY-06 and refresh my memory stock exhaust or pipes and if you have pipes what brand??

I have a feeling your running lean in your mid range from not haveing the right set up like I stated above. Those SLP pipes are designed pretty close to what the 97 SPXs are, and the SPX runs stock 380 mains. Me personally I would get my JN & NJ matched, E-clip at 3rd slot from the top and run it through mid range and by checking your plugs then you'll know.

The 0 makes no difference 6-cey-6 is what you need and you also need the Q2-247 NJ to match.

I've done step jetting, for example a center cylinder on an XLT will want a fatter jet because of the heat. You would have better success at step jetting if you were running EGTs.

The stock 50 PJ is fine, it will be a little rich, and load up a bit when you go to give it gas.

but with the new needle it should be better in the mid range ?? because it seemed to me that it was a little boggy in the mid to high range

Now that you seem happy with mid range, your idle and initial take off is going to be your pilot jets and air screw adjustment, if you still have the stock #50s and your air is at one turn out from seat, you could try turning your air out 1/4 turns at a time or buy different pilots.

if i were to buy diff pilots what size would i get bigger or smaller and if i adjust the air screw will this make it not want to die when i take off and could i just adjust them and test it with the air box off (easier access to the air screws) or will no air box effect it also
