I just got done bolting in a xtra 10 out of a 2000 700xcsp with fox shocks in a 1995 xlt. After sitting it on the floor again with the track all adjusted up it seems that the suspenion is real stiff. Is this the nature of this susp.? if so,what might be done to soften it up some? I haven't ridden it yet, waiting for my clutch to get back.
If anyone has any experience with this skid please give me your thoughts.
THANKS

Just to let you know polaris made two sleds that year(95) both called xlt sp one is the standard suspension the other is and xtra 12,This causes problems when ordering parts, my friend flip has had a hell of a time even if you tell them its an xtra 12 they still send standard parts. Keep this in mind

Oh, your riding your wifes sled today?

Did you use the existing mounting holes to bolt the new suspension in? If so, that is likely the problem. What you need to do is find a sled with the same style chassis as yours that came equipped with the Xtra 10 standard. Then measure from the driveshaft to the first mounting hole. Compare this to what your sled measures. If they are different you will need to put a new mounting hole in yours where the mounting hole is on the sled that came with the Xtra-10. Also measure the distance between the front and rear mounting holes on the chassis with the Xtra -10, and put your rear mounting hole this distance from your new front hole.
I did this conversion on a 95 Indy 500. I used the existing holes and when I put the Xtra 10 in it was way too tight. Got the right measurements, put the new holes in, and viola, new sled.

I have a 1997 Supersport that has a factory xtra 10 skid in it. Does that mean I can take the measurements off of the Supersport and use them on my 1994 XCR 440? Will they be correct. They are the same chassis - I think.

I had taken my measurements off a 1996 indy 500. My 1995 xlt had a rolled chaincase from factory that year. I measured front axle distance on the 500 to the bulk head it was the same as mine, then measured the bolt hole measurements. I moved front hole 1 inch ahead, still on the steel mount plate, then 23 inchs between front and back holes . I moved the rear mount plates ahead with a little trimming to fit around the end of my coolers. it was a perfect fit.

So how would I know which chassis to get the measurements from? Are all xtra 10 skids the same?

Glenn

No all xtra10s weren't/aren't the same. I don't remember where i read that but they did make some mods over the years. One thing about how stiff it is, measure the dia. of the torsion springs. They may not be stock. The stock ones are .406" and the next size up are .421".

whats the difference between the xtra 10 and the xtra 12? would it be worth the time to switch from the 10 to the 12 in my sled?

Two more inchs of travel, it would smooth the bumps better.
