I just bought a 1998 polaris indy trail 500 (488 fan). The suspension when lifted up goes right back down. I think my shock is shot but have been very confused on where to buy one. I can not find the correct part number any where! please let me know what the part number is and any other advise. By the way its the far rear shock that no longer has gas left. I think its gas?

my .02 worth would be to pull them off and take them in to be rebuilt. A local guy around here gave me a pretty spot on estimate to fix them and it was cheaper then the parts would have been since he already had half of them.

well if the shocks aren't rebuildable here a site that u can enter your sled make model year and it will list all the parts that will fit it sledparts.com or also known as www.mfgsupply.com/snowmobile.html

Updates to the indy-400 includes: Extra-10, 4.5inch handlebar riser w/1.5 inch rise bars, Rhino lined running boards, New shocks up front, Oh yea almost ALL BLACKED OUT...

I show many people a picture of my 1886 indy-400 and they say its piece of s*#@, then I laugh and show them the "after" photos. Hah jokes on you!

Your shocks may very well be shot- but that is not whats causing the suspension to collapse. Sounds like you also have worn out or broken springs. Check the torsion springs and track springs- that is what keeps the suspension up and controls ride height. Also make certain all your cross-shafts are lubed and moving freely so nothing is binding.

97 XLT SP- clutched, geared, jetted, 1.25 Ripsaw, DG can, Cobra low windy, plastic skis, 2" riser.

Yes, the shocks found on the non-performance sleds aren't. Go to mfgsupply or dennis kirk.
