Didn't want to get off topic on the 13' poo thread so I started this one...

So are these things bad ass enough to justify the 30K price tag. To me they look like an edge or doo (before rider forward) with a turbo. I'm sure there are many mods from a sled from the big four but still...30K? There are companies that sell brand new pro-rmk's turboed and mountain ready for under 20. I guess I'm just curious...there must be something goin on with them that's good since they've maintained since 1996. So what's the scoop?

they are nice sleds but most people can buy their parts and do it for half or most of the cost of buying one straight from cmx.

Yes, they are. thats why many older (early 2000's) compleat mod sleds that costed around $18k, now sell for around $4k. still killer sleds... but you toast a trailing arm and you can no longer buy replacements, so you either have to go stock or have one built.....

Ive read up on these, watched the videos they have on the net. If you have 30k to blow on a sled than go for it. I personally dont think any sled is worth that kind of money. Im sure a good enough rider on any turbo 800 from the 4 companies could do just as much as the CMX. Besides how many CMX's do you see in the movies???

I dont mean to nock it, its a business that has been around and providing jobs and has stayed in business. So kudos to them.

(but 30k for a sled)

The 30k is way over the top, but CMX sleds are definately a well engineered weapon. I do think that most of the 800 turbos from any of the factory boys will take you just as high and as far for a lot less coin.

The great riders aren't in the videos, they're out riding and having fun for themselves, likely hauling their sleds to the parking lot in a pickup that is worth 1/20th of their sled.

Right, but my question here is why would they buy one of those over a poo turbo? There has to be something about them besides the fact that it's a small shop

They have all the lightweight components added to the sled. It is cheaper than buying all the components yourself and paying to have the parts put on your sled. This way you have a "factory" mod sled that is ready for you from the start.

^Interesting Jayme...To me they look worlds behind on the ergonomics though. Like I was sayin, they look like an old edge from a distance. Do they build the motors then or are they from another company? One thing I'll say, if they had a marketing company re-do their website it'd help em out. It's hard to find the info one is looking for. I realize it's hard to sell that to a small shop but in this day in age it needs to be done. My best friend owns a welding company and he is hands down the best welder I've seen. Lots of nuclear stuff, stainless, aluminum, you name it. I had to convince him to start putting his proposals on an electronic format so he can email them instead of handwriting them and faxing them LOL.

They work off a a arm chassis now, a Polaris Pro chassis to be exact. They are more than just a factory sled with add ons. Lots of his stuff is one off. I had the pleasure to talk with Mark the owner about 5 or so years ago. Me and buddy were driving through Clyde Park, MT where they are built on a Sunday and see the garage doors were open to the shop so we stopped. Mark came out and and talked with us and then invited us into the shop and showed us around and talked with us for a good 2 hours. He showed us all kinds of things he was doing, carbon fiber tunnels that weighed 17lbs let us handle carbon fiber trailing arms that were thousands of dollars. He is a great guy, he knew we were not in the market for one of his sled but treated us better than any dealer I have ever been two by showing us everything in his shop and BSing with us. Imagine how he treats a customer if he treated two 20 something year old rube kids like that. Mark is a great guy and does some amazing stuff. Check out his website. http://www.crazymtn.com/

Got next to one today at the sled shop by my house while I was picking up parts for my buddies pro rmk that went onto a creek.

It must have been older but had its own style cmx belly pan and hood and tons if tricked out components on it. I didn't see any stock looking parts on it. It looked pretty capable.
