On my sled it has indy on the hood and XC edge on the seat. Is it a indy 500 or a xc 500 or what? 2002 model

Do you have a picture of it? The 2002 Indy 500 has an edge chassis.

Sounds like it's an Indy. What does the head of the engine look like. I believe the Indy's (Fuji Motor) to still have a plain(natural) head and the liberty engines will have a colored/polished head.

This should be your sled...it's an Indy XC...same as mine only newer, Indy is a name that Polaris sticks on almost all of their trail and sport sleds.

The Indy 500 is 488cc Fuji with piston port induction,
XC is 500cc Liberty with reed induction.
Here's a pic of the 2002 Indy 500 (488cc) courtesy of Pman...

1999 Polaris 500 XC, 1.25" track, EPI Clutch Kit.

^ Correct, the difference in the name is only the "XC" part. It doesn't make sense if you have an Indy 500 that says XC Edge on the seat.
