I'd say no, but that's just my thoughts. Have you tried pouring just a tinge of gas down the plug holes? Considered a primer kit? Do you "fog" the engine? Fogging it makes it difficult to start regardless. That's my thoughts, could be wrong tho.

I wouldn't use staring fluid either...heard lots of horror stories about that stuff, never owned it...never will. If I can't get something started with out it, I would say their is enough of a problem to start looking and like said, if its the nature of the beast..maybe a priming kit. again, just my .02. 3ft
Pin it till you see god, and back off just a hair!!

Starting fluid is like crack for 2-stokes, It'll work good at first, but the longer you use it the more you have to use and the harder it gets to start. I think it eats up the seals also.

I have often used it for a first start up of the year on a hard to start sled. It probably isn't the best thing but after your arm is ready to fall off from pulling it over it is better than kicking the **** out of your beloved sled. I'd say use it sparingly

No, fix the problem. Before putting it away drain those carbs, drain or treat the fuel. Yours probably need a cleaning and aren't "right" even when it starts easier.
A properly tuned sled should start right up, first time out should only require enough pulls to get the fuel flowing.

bad bad bad. Just hold choke wide open and throttle shut and pull till it fires. As a last resort pour gas down the plug holes, but not alot. Starting fluid strips away lubricant.
brsacjab is correct. A properly setup sled will start cold in 3-5 pulls, and warm on the first pull every time.

We have a older 670 Ski Doo with the primer. Will not start cold no matter what8 out of 10 times. We only use WD-40 to help in place of starter fluid. Works great without drying out the cylinders.

Sorry...off subject so PM me if you want...are you sure the primer works? I have 3, and all 3 start first pull every year. It's not difficult for the seals in the plunger to fail, causing the primer to be inop.

Holy Cow thanks for the replys Yes I do fog it so thats maybe it, the sled starts fine now I have used the gas trick before.
I was talking to friend who used starting fluid once and the sled took off and destroyed the picknick table in his back yard.
Starting fluid bad...LOL

Rotax, I am pretty sure the primer works as the sled floods or fouls out the plugs pretty quickly. It seems as if 2 pumps are not enough, and 3 is too much. Also, it only seems to happen when either the sled has sat for a long time(2-3 weeks or more) or when it is very cold out (<5 F) When this happens, the only way to get her going is pull w/o plugs until dry, new plugs, and a quick spray of WD-40. A choke is so much easier :)

Sorry to hijack, but have you tried priming five times and then pull the rope at WOT? I had a stubborn Rotax 467 that was really hard to start until i tried the above.
Ah, the wonders of nature... Too bad they're blurred when i go past them! =)

My sleds do that do when they come out of storage. I use it, no problems in years... matter of fact ever..

From what I have been told from my buddies dad (a mechanic, and Arctic Cat FANATIC), and the guy I get to work on my sled, who is a GMC mechanic at the dealer, so they are knowledgeable people, they said among other things it will crack the heads, if you absolutely have to use it spray it in the carb, not directly into the cylinder.
EDIT: Oh and I am talking about either, and that type of stuff.
