Hey isnt that why there are so many pockets in our suits? You need to have some common sense, without that you are going to be doomed. You can have a hundred things you shouldnt do but with a little common sense you may be able to break the odd rule once in a while. I like riding safe and having fun at the same time. "Never ride alone" sorry to whoever thinks this is a good thing to follow because if I did I would not be riding as much as I like to, and that is not good. When I want to go for a ride I go whether I have company or not. I think that is kind of silly. I have heard the reasons behind it but if thats the case you better have somebody come with you for you car rides, bike rides, walks, etc... because you just never know, right??? And yes I say this even after some long walks home.

Maybe where you guys are, it's OK.
Out here where we ride, being stuck with a broken down sled by your self basically means that you can be walking for 3 or so days because you are in some serious mountains and DEEP snow. It's a good way to get dead.

You are absolutly right, conditions like that would mean you had better bring a friend. Thats where the common sense I mentioned comes in. I would not be riding out there alone either. But I do ride alone.

Not that I don't carry when I ride, but what's your reason for carrying?

I don't normally carry a weapon.
I've got a few, but I just don't see the need when riding.

Most animals run from the noise and avoid people.
I carry food and a really complete survival kit.
I don't poach.

If you're not prepared to spend the night anyway, you're not prepared to kill, process, and eat some critter to survive. It is nice to be able to make some noise if you have to. I pack a day's rations and a metal cup. Eat something, drink water, make fire, make shelter.
