This is my thread on the build of my ZRT

I am going to look at a 97 ZRT tommorrow that needs a motor.

My 96 is in need of repair (hood, windshield, ski, 2 arm's, sway bar link, hood screens, many handle bar parts, rear bumper)

I am thinking of putting my 96 motor into the 97. From what I can see online (brownseisureworld) it looks like they will fit each other. Because on there it says that the original part number for the 96 motor is superceded by another number. Then when you go to the 97 motor number, thats the number. So basically if you had a 96 and wanted a new motor from cat, you would be buying the 97 motor.

I am thinking the only difference is rear suspension?

The sled I am going to look at is complete. Motor still in it. The center cylinder piston broke and destroyed the block. Supposly it still runs and moves.

Its complete. Has new aftermarket windshield, aftermarket can (he thinks), and shop manual.

I am thinking of either putting my motor in it and parting out my sled or taking the parts I need from that one and putting them on mine and parting out the rest.

Any info anyone has is appreciated!

The rear suspension is the only difference I know of..Isnt that the first year of the ETT?

The 97's have ETT rear suspensions, and I believe cat used a different type of manifold for connecting the pipes the cylinders. I would recommend putting your motor in the 97' chassie because the tunnel is also designed differently for the ETT suspension, but the bulkhead is the same.
