Hey could someone tell me the fastest way to replace the hyfax on my xlt? I read an article in a magazine a while back and they said to pull them out the windows on the track. Does this sound good or should I loosen the track and move it out of the way? Also has anyone tried that hyperfax material? Is it worth the extra cost?

I just changed my hyfax and the easiest way is through the track windows. Just raise the back end, remove the screw and tap them out. The new ones will just slide right on. Easier with 2 people so you know when the hole is lined up for the screw.

Loosen the rear axle bolts. Loosen the track. Take out the hyfax bolt. Drive the hyfax out the window. Lubricate rail. Insert new hyfax. I put a small dia. allen wrench in hyfax bolt hole and as I tap in the hyfax the allen wrench will drop when the hole lines up. Bolt it back in. Tighten track. Align track and adjust tension. Loose is fast. Retighten axle bolts. 15 min per side with beer. 10 minutes per side without. But things go better with lubrication. Never tried hyperfax, but you can buy a lot of standard hyfax with $75.

hyfax is what the rear suspension uses to reduce wear on the the rails. combined with idler wheels the hyfax is helpful in getting power to the ground quicker.

motopsycho440 - click on the picture below. Look at the long red stripe that goes all the way along the bottom edge of the rear suspension... THAT is the hyfax. It's a plastic type material that the track slides against.
Not so long ago, a deranged, ranting person's audience was limited to how many people happened to be on the same street. The Internet, however, has certainly allowed "crazy" to go global...

Hyfax is the material that makes up most slides, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong. A tip somebody shared with me prior was to put anti-seize on the inside of the new slides to assist in easier removal when they wear down. I did it on my last set but haven't removed them yet to see if it works. You may want to grab a small punch or chisel to help pound out the old ones.

I got a tip that if you can slide a 7/16 wrench over your slides at the point where they curve you need new ones...anyone know if this is true???

Actually it's that you should use the wrench to see if the sliders are worn to the point that the wrench fits ANYWHERE on the slider. Who's to say your sliders will wear at that point? Why not right in front of a bogey wheel? So try it along the length and replace when worn. you can also check the wear limit line on the slider itself.

most slides i've seen have a very small line on them. once there worn to that line they are shot. about a 1/16" from wear through.
