How do you stitch up the windshield like that. I broke one last year and i use it for when im playing around but i just used duct tape to hold it together which doesnt work very good.

I went with the TEAM secondary, 66/44-.46, Red/Blue with 3 delrin washers and I like the set-up. I still watch for a 34s or 34x but I'm in no hurry. If we get the snow, I have a few things I'm going to try/change.
How is it speed wise, think it will work on ice?? I am thinking about going this route also. I love the team on the trail. It works very well.
I have 2 helix's left from my 700. Which are close to what you are using.

hi i was just wondering if anyone has shaved down there heads on the 97-98 engines and if it could be done since the head gaskets are o-rings, and if it is worth it. Also i have a problem with my carb the fitting that hooks the oil line to the carb falls apart when i clean the carbs. what happens is the fitting is brass and is a 90 degree fitting and when i try to take the oil line off the carb the nipple of the fitting comes off with the line. what can i do to fix this? Does the whole fitting come off so i can replace it?

You are already needing 91+ octane. You take any more off the head and you will need to have a 50/50 mix of race and premium fuel. Not worth it IMO.
Sounds like you may need a new oil line fitting.

hi I have been looking over some of the forums and have become confused on if my sled is a 97 race sled or not. When i bought the sled it came with a 97 manual,97 "racers guide to set it up", it also didnt have a speedo, and i am friends with the mechanic that assembled it and saw it raced and he also said that it was a 97 race sled. But it has the red heads on it which would make it a 98 production sled. so what do i have?

show us a pic. Do you have the snorkel on the hood by the bars? what does it say on the trailing arms, what size bearing to you have on the rear axle wheels, under hood pic? Someone could have easily put the 98 red head cover or painted it?? build date on the tunnel??
could have easily been raced in the 97/98 season??

98' It has the snorkel, coolant/oil tank and xtra 10 on arms, red head, red wheels with looks like smaller 20mm rear bearings. I am only basing this on the wheels usually only come gray or purple with the 25mm rear bearings. The 97 had the bigger rear axle.
97' arms would have said ifs-xtra, no snorkel, and seperate not even close coolant/oil tank.

I say it is. Alot of things point to it being a 98' I would say without a doubt it is.
My wheels were purple but I lost one, SO I had an suspension out of a 87 trail that the wheels fit since mine had the larger id bearings.

Maybe but 98 was a production model. Your sled might have been race. I am really intrigued by the bracket that the coil pack is bolted to. Would like to see more pics of the air filter set up.
Was/is there added holes in the snow flap? When I got mine it had teathers so the snow flap would only go so far back. The bars also had a roll pin installed through the clamp and bars.
Lots of team clutches from $150-$400. I want something cheap to test with.

The bracket is something that i made out of a sheet of 12"x12"x1/8" aluminum to hold the filter in place because the filters vibrate and end up ripping the carb boots. I zip tie the intermediate angled hose to the bracket and then bolt the coils to the top of it and the whole thing is riveted to the chassis.
here is a drawing of it.
it works very well

Where do you have your t-flow set? Mine is 1/16 - 1/8 turn ccw with 370 mains. It is close to the edge, so I'm not going any leaner. Almost no wash with it set this way.
Is this with the dot at the 6 o'clock position??
thinking that my issue might be the t-flow set too rich. I have it set to the dot right now.
Going to run hsp black, I-30's, aaen roller with a polaris blue and aaen 50/36.

yeah and did the jetting for it the only thing is that i have to change the jets because just a 10 deg change and the sled runs bad. But that the only reason why i notice it was because i was losing a lot of power because the front right engine mount broke and the clutch were out of aliment. But i fixed that so i hope i get back the hp.
here a pic of the mod that i made to fix the mount.
i also re welded the mount

The 97/98 still hold their own against 500's. Quote originally posted by xcr440
Took it out again with s53's running 8500 rpms and 88.94 on gps. I can live with that. I know I was a tad faster with the 22/41 but that is fine with me.
I am geared for 93.5 mph...so I am right where i'm supposed to be.
suppose I could try running less spring tension. Like run it is #2 instead of 3.
Right now I have 2 secondarys set up,
my oem with an R-8 with an epi orange #3
aaen roller with a 50/36 with polaris blue #5.

normally you send them out, most performance shops do it for around $50. I bought 1 calibrated. So if I need to do tuning I swap tachs and I am good to go.
Mine was reading 300 low.

woodbooga: (WOOD-boog-ah), n. regional dialect, common to areas of New Hampshire and Maine including the towns of Ossipee, Alton, Farmington, Acton, and Lebanon; one who attempts to obtain free firewood to fuel woodburning appliances in an effort to mitigate expenses related to home heating with fossil fuels. Frequently used as a term of derision by non-woodburners who mock the presence of loose bark and other wood waste in the beds of their pickup trucks.

Quote originally posted by xcr440 Quote originally posted by tnmemr I went with the TEAM secondary, 66/44-.46, Red/Blue with 3 delrin washers and I like the set-up. I was hitting 100+ on the speedo with 1.95 gearing @ 8500 rpms.

Im getting ready to work on my dad's 96 xcr 440 this weekend. My plan is to get the rear skid out and check the bearings in it, built a set of suspension hangers for it, and send the shocks out to be rebuilt, and get some new springs for it. my question is where can i get heavy duty springs, what should i tell the shop to put in for valves so that it will handle like 400lb (it has a two up seat on it and my mom ride with him) , and will the suspension hangers the make the sled heat up.
