38 are pretty big is there a big difference in power and gas consumption, does it affect the engine in a negative way.

i dont know i run carlisle ultimax pro or there max belt on my 98, because they are cheap and run as long a the polaris belts. But for $10 you cant try it and then if you dont like it then it would be a good spare.

Running 38s will hurt the bottom (holeshot) as well as mpg. Not worth the extra few (2-4) HP gained on top end IMO. My 98 runs 19 - 22 mpg on groomed trails riding hard. I haven't tried a "normal" speed trail ride to see if it is better at lower speeds. It should be. Dial in the clutching, jetting, gearing, and loosen the track to at least 3/4" of free hang WITHOUT any weight hanging on it.

hayesxcr440,
Running filters actually will decrease HP do to taking in hot under hood air instead of the preferred outside air.

easily get 20 mpg with stock clutching. I havn't check it with the t-flow and hsp kit.

There is nothing to be gained by using anything other than the stock airbox. What don't you like about the airbox?

it makes re jetting longer, and i thought that the filters would give me more hp. plus they were free.

I found that by splitting the 2 halves of the airbox and installing it that way worked much better. I filed the edges that hold it together so that it wasn't difficult to take apart but would still stay together. Using a Tempa Flow or an ATACC is priceless IMO. Since installing the Tempa Flow it runs spot on at all times. You can find used Tempa Flows cheap if not in a hurry or bite the bullet. Most will agree that the cost of a T-Flow or ATACC will be outweighed by the performance gained and better fuel efficiency.

MY hood was cracked all the way down the furthest rear left corner, and being as cheap as I am, I got some clear duct tape, and gorilla glue epoxy, and so far so good. Seems pretty darn tight to be honest! I taped up the top side and spray painted over it to hold it down, then put a whole thing of the epoxy in the crack on the inside. Its not super pretty, but it looks a lot better than it did!

Just curious if any of you guys were looking for spare engine parts for your 440's. I'm parting out a 99 xcr, still have both exhaust valve assy's, one good cylinder, mint primary clutch with the WIDE rollers, etc. Let me know. Thanks.

I am going to try a blue/orange with a HSP 50/36s. Hopefully it slows the upshift enough. I was using a epi orange in #3 last year and it worked pretty good. till the engine got hot with T-flow set at 7 o'clock position with 380. Was very rich.

nice, you can fix everything with tape and glue

tried the epoxy kit on my yamaha hood, seems hold up good

im tearing down the front and rear suspension now, and since its already in parts. im going to paint all the parts, some of them are pretty rusty.

i might paint some of the suspension parts red, it might look cool

I painted my brothers suspension with rust-oleum paint and it held up a lot better than the napa rust paint that i used on my sled, it also helps to scuff up the primer with a sos pad before you start with putting the red paint on.

I used an HSP white secondary, (45/100) with good results. This spring is for lower HP sleds. The Pol. blue/orange is for higher HP sleds as is the HSP purple (50/75). I asked 2 years ago about using the HSP purple to cure the too quick upshift and slow backshift problem and was told that the purple was for the XCR 800 and piped Ultras etc. The HSP white has less torsional load and smaller diameter wire but is taller for more side pressure. It came with the kits for the monoblock XCR 600s with a 34s helix. Those XCR 6s had a very similar power band to our XCR 440s. Engagement @ 5000+, mid 90s HP, and 8500 shift-out rpm.
