Hey guys just got in from a little ride on the 440. I have put approx 100 miles on the sled and have a couple questions. When i grab a mitfull really quick the sled seems to sputter a bit as if it's getting to much gas or something, but eventually clears itself. It only does this every once in a while. Another question i have is, my exhaust valves seem to be leaking oil. So tonight i took them out thinking i may just need a couple gaskets, but the old gaskets looked fine. What else would cause this?

As has been said many times these sleds are tempermental to jetting. You are probably on the rich side. How is the belt to sheave clearance and deflection? What were the conditions you were riding in as well as the elevation? How is your sled set-up?

Got a short ride in on the 440. I think the jetting specs I stated earlier should be about spot on with the UFOs and tempaflow. I have a bog, but plugs read perfect, no loading, and good idle.

I think the bog is my worn belt, its sitting low in secondary which should be adjusted.

Has anyone experimented with different VES springs in the 440?

The biggest problem I've found with LEDs is that they often are not as bright as the incandescents. I don't want less light. More is better to see and be seen. Did you use the same LEDs for your tail light?

LEDs hve come a long way in the last few years. Std LEDs usually do suck, all of the ones I'm using are from the website I posted the link to and are all "super" bright. The range of light and projections are improving making LED's the way to go. I bet in 10 years we'll see 30-40% of new cars with LED headlights, I believe Audi already has them with the R8.

Are the trails open up there? Dude it was well above freezing today so most likely your running pig rich. The oil is normal, especially since your running fat today. are the bellows still ok, no rips?

No the trails aren't open. I've mainly been riding some of the powder we had and doing alot of pit riding. Trails should be opening soon though!

Also on Sunday when i had the sled out it was just slightly above 0. 1 degree celsius was the approximate temperature so it shouldn't have been that bad.

I took my exhaust valves out to clean them, and what a mess. Both bellows were very slightly cracked causing oil to be everywhere. Will i notice any difference in power with some cleaned valves, new gaskets and new bellows?

One other question is what belts are you boys running? 3211067 is the factory measured belt for the machine which is on it right now but is there another number that will work?

Yes cracked bellows will make it run like a dog. And yes any temps near or above zero when runnintg stock jetting will make it run like crap. Service the valves and you should notice a difference, mostly in top end though. Most guys are running the 074 belt.

I'm sure it's been covered, but is there any aftermarket pipe or can or both for our little monsters?

Not yet, still haven't got my Gauges in, shipping from the US is normally pretty slow, border bs usually. Once I get them (hopefully soon) I'll be sure to post up some before and after pics, with std lights, std, LED's and the super LED's. Giggidy.

Well I rode the xcr to work today. 51 miles put on there and back, gas gauge is on the 1/4-reserve line. With milage this horrible I think I might end up scrapping the UFOs and going back to stock. That is well below 10 mpg, Im sure I had plenty of track spin the majority of the time though. Pretty powdery.

When I talked to Lonn @ Thunder Products about the UFOs he suggested starting with a 17.5 pilot. This is using the 3.5 slide cutaway. Where is your needle set? I talked to a guy locally with a 98 XCR 440, he's been running 330 mains down to 0* F with the e-clip in the #2 position from the top. Run 'em lean is what he stressed.

The guy I was talking about in the above post was not running UFOs or a Tempa Flow.

I ran 330's last year all of febuary in wi. Ran nice and crisp. I wouldn't do any long runs with it but it ran good.

Remember when you change to the 074 belt to change your belt clearance to .020''-.030'' with a NEW belt. Deflection set to 1.25''.

Got my whiteface tach today. They are less bright than my stock ones even with the LED's. The colour for the backlighting works a little different than the stock gauge so it didn't have that nice indiglo look I was hoping for. Sold my original track 20 minutes ago, hopefully take the sled to my buddies shop tonite and swap in the new one, still not sure what to go with, depends on what he's got in stock and how much I want to spend, either way a minimum of 1" will go on. Got the parts in for the roller secondary too, will have to give that a try.

We got about 10 inches of snow here yesterday!! I got the "new 92 XCR 440" out this afternoon and took it for a few runs out on the ball fields. It seems to be ok, no noises, pops, etc. Now I want to sell my old 92 440 xcr, to finance my xtra 10 project, today would be a good day to park it out by the road, do you guys think 500.00 is a fair price? 4000 miles, seat is good, hood is ok, runs great, good windshield, worn track. never let me down.

I am down near Albany NY, I has got to be a good 4 1/2 hours away from you,
It is the one on the right, I have cleaned it up a bit since this picture was taken.
I was hoping to sell it local but if you are interested, I'll send pictures and describe it as best I can.
