xcr440,
How is that Aaen roller working? Have to make any changed to the clutching? Do you have you Tempa-Flow dialed in?

don't know....I came back tonite from st.germain. To no snow....what the hell happened. When I left on the 25th we had over 18", now nothing.

I should be fine with the clutch as it is simular to my brothers, which he has in a 01' xc 600. I have the tempaflow set right now a tad rich. If anything I will set it to the dot.

This weather is not looking good for my clubs radar run the end of the month.

We lost snow here too. Just before X-mas we had a solid month of good snow, about 3' in my area, problem was the snow started so early the ground never froze so when 2 days of mild temps came right after X-mas it melted alot. Trails were almost ready too, they would have been nice. Not much snow in the long range forcast either, I am itching to get out for a ride.

Anyone have spare primary parts kickin' around? I need a good sliding half for a used primary I picked up that has a ding in it.

I wouldn't go mixing and matching primary parts...I think that Polaris assembles it then adjust them for balance/weight? I'm only going by what a guy that works on my sled said....could be wrong information.

You can mix match as long as you have it balanced afterwards.

Hey im new to the site and just wanted to introduce myself and my snowmobile. My sled has a hotseat clutch kit, v-force delta reeds and some slp skis. I just got back from a weekend of riding in northern wisconsin and i was very happy with my sled. I did have a problem with some bogging in the powder. It would clear up but it was kind of a pain in the ass when i needed the power to do some climbing in the deep snow. From what i have read a few of you have had this problem, anyone figure it out yet. thanks jake

Was it an actual bog, or a stutter or miss? It seemed like it was powder related at first, but now we've noticed it's a hesitation right in the 6,800-7100 range. Kind of dismisses the harmonics or timing issue, at least in theory. It points to the VES opening range, so we might just try replacing bellows even though they look fine and aren't that old.

Should we try cutting the gaskets? Someone mentioned how much the new style gaskets block off the gas holes- maybe it makes it a little harder for the bellows to inflate initially?

Maybe some spring tuning or shortening is helpful with the newer gaskets. XC600RMK- did you get a length on yours?

Thursday i rode from presque isle to boulder juction and a few places around there. And the stutter i get i belive is around 7000 rpm it just stumbles a little clears then pulls to over 8000rpm. Its seems like it doesnt have the power to pull all the way to 8500rpm until the sled picks up some speed.

I see. I saw a kid on a 98' west of minocqua.

Have you checked the little hole that put the pressure to the bellows? somewhat dirty valves?
stock clutching?

what hole you have the secondary spring in the helix?

stock gearing?

Thats true, but like xcr440 said, it must be rebalanced afterwards. This is most likely why Polaris only sells a complete clutch without the guts, you can't just order the pieces.

He guys I have an opportunity to purchase a 1996 XCR440. I have yet to actually see the sled up close as I have only seen it from the road when I drive by and the garage door is open. I just found out from a friend he wants to sell it. I was told it needs very little to get it running. Has been sitting for a year and needs the carbs cleaned. I was told it has about 4500 miles on it. I can buy it for $700.00 or less. I had thought about buying it for my son as a upgrade from his old Indy 400. What is the XCR 440 worth?

I bought my sled at the end of last year with 2100mi now it has 2800mi still not sure where all the miles came from, they add up pretty quick. The previous owner installed a hot seat clutch kit im not sure what that kit includes. As for as the position of my secondary spring i am not sure i tried to look at it today but i couldnt see anything. I dont know much about clutches and secondarys yet. As for gearing my sled has stock gearing as far as i know, and i cleaned the ves valves and carbs at the begging of the season. The reeds that are in the sled are vforce delta, im not sure how they help exactly. And finaly i am in the process of reading all 80+ pages. thanks

I just replaced the bellows 100 miles or so ago, and also made the hole in gasket larger to fit the hole on valve,no change.

Been out doing a little testing in the field. Mainly doing secondary changes to see what works for the hardpack we have now. The R11 with an HSP white #2 has worked well for all around use. I don't have the bogging problems in the soft snow that I had with the 36s. The HSP 36 (similar to an R12) works well also but the steeper initial angle doesn't work as well in the fluff, good on hardpack. I'm going to be installing the Team secondary tomorrow and doing some more field runs.

Keep us posted on how the TEAM works. My 66-44-.46 is still on back order
I am planning on running it with a red/blue spring and the delrin washers like you mentioned, while still running the stock primary clutching.

Once I get the helix in and get my other primary sorted out I can then make quick swaps between setups to really get a good feel.

The used primary I got is from a 98 440XCR and came with a silver/grey coloured spring(not sure what the actual rates are) and W2 weights that were marked 50.7 grams. The weights have the exact same profile as my HSP weights which if I recall correctly are 49 grams. I'll have to check my weight list to see what the W2 stands for.

Make sure that the red/blue Team secondary spring is left hand (counter clockwise) wound. I have W2s in mine and I believe they are 49.5g. The Team works well but I will wait until we get more snow to see how it works on the trail, in the fluff, & on the lake. I rode a 98 XCR 440 with this Team secondary set-up but different primary componets and that sled would hit 100+ on a long stretch (3/4 mile) on the speedo. Any pics for us with the LEDs? I'm considering doing LEDs.

Hmmm, I didn't see a listing for LH wound springs, I just ordered the only red/blue spring listed from TEAM? What would the difference be? Were you looking for pics of the whitefaced gauges with LED's? Because they sucked, it was a huge disappointment. I'll try and get some better pics up of the stock gauges with the LED's. You can't tell the difference in the tailight either, a little less flickering due to less consumption.

They made a right hand wound in the past and hopefully it is not made any longer. The RH wound would increase in diameter as the secondary compressed the spring causing the spring to bind on the sides. This is also the reason to use the delrin washers. Less friction.

woodbooga: (WOOD-boog-ah), n. regional dialect, common to areas of New Hampshire and Maine including the towns of Ossipee, Alton, Farmington, Acton, and Lebanon; one who attempts to obtain free firewood to fuel woodburning appliances in an effort to mitigate expenses related to home heating with fossil fuels. Frequently used as a term of derision by non-woodburners who mock the presence of loose bark and other wood waste in the beds of their pickup trucks.
