need to bring it up from page 3.

I did some practice runs. Hsp clutching is junk, plain and simple.

after the belt got warm after 3 runs I would lose 20 mph.

Went back to my hsp white, s53h, hsp orange, r-8. Will run 90 mph. Still think i have not enough secondary spring pressure.

Roller secondary and 50/36 is too much angle won't pull the 36 at wot. only get 70 mph out of it.

After putting in the 53's I now need more fuel plugs are a tad too white for my liking after a few 1 mile runs.

Got some 380's to try.

Would anybody be interested in a 98 XCR 440 with a blown engine for $600. I had a guy call me tonight and ask if I wanted it, he said it is in excelent condition with a cover. He said its his father inlaws and he thinks it might have a new track. He also offered me a 01 XCF with a blown engine, and cover for $700. I guess the father inlaw smoked both engines last week in Northern Michigan. You can reach me at hsgreen28@hotmail.com Thanks

My son bought a 2000 XCF 440. I think it was raced, looked like it has been rode hard but still in pretty good shape. Problem is, after it warms up it has a really bad bog under 5000 RPM. Can't hardley get out of it's own way. If you get the RPMs over 5000 runs like a champ. Clutches seem to work fine, plugs are new, swapped secondary coil, not the problem. Currently soaking the carbs & will try diffrent positions on the primary needles. Any other ideas?

Well, thought I'd drop a line here...

I became a proud owner of a XCR 440 Mid december.. I put 250 miles on it and the stock 8 in suspension was junk... I just got done putting a xtra 10 out of a 2000 xc and I've got to say I love it. Rides way better. I've got to thank all you guys on here who posted measurement and ideas, spent 4 nights reading and 1 night working on the sled.

My 93 takes off at 5k rpm, and I can get it up to 90-93 mph. I beat my friends 500XC sp off the line up to about 60mph then even to 90 and then he pulls ahead.

I haven't got mine wound out on a long run yet, but in 1/4-1/2 mile, I see 95+ with the Team set-up. 66/44.46, red/blue, HSP black, HSP W2, 370 mains, 159 nozzles T-Flow 1/8 ccw. I wouldn't go any lower than this as I was seeing 1190 and climbing on the EGTs @ WOT for 1/4-1/2 mile. Cocoa brown/rust plugs and piston domes and minimal piston wash. Maybe 1/4". The 159s work ok but do run quite lean. They are not good, according to the EGTs, for steady, part throttle trail riding. 1220+ is what I have seen at 1/8-1/2 throttle. If you choose to run the 159s, change the throttle position often.

Norwegian,
Should fit as long as you have room at the front heat exchanger and the lugs won't bottom much at full compression of the rear skid.. You also have heat exchangers under the running boards correct? Make sure that it has the correct pitch as well. Stock is 2.52"

I saw over 90 mph on the speedo and 87.9 mph on my lowrance gps. I think she needs a tad bit more weight or less secondary spring pessure. I have a set of S51H weights might try them today.

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have experience with, or know of anyone who has put larger cylinders and pistons on a 99 XCR 440 (not the SP). I'm in the process of rebuilding the crank and one of the cylinders is toast as well, so I was thinking of maybe adding jugs off an XC600 or 700? Is this do-able, or am I asking for more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for any help.

It is doable but you need to match the bottom end to fit the cylinders.

about 80mph on the speedo is all I can get out of my stock 94 xcr 440.. It was just fine with the stock rear suspension, but with the xtra 10 I'm topping out way more then before...

I've been so busy I haven't had chance to hit the trails again. I'd like to see what I can run on the GPS since the track and ski swap, normally I was good to see 98-99 on the speedo, 100 on a cold day.

woodbooga: (WOOD-boog-ah), n. regional dialect, common to areas of New Hampshire and Maine including the towns of Ossipee, Alton, Farmington, Acton, and Lebanon; one who attempts to obtain free firewood to fuel woodburning appliances in an effort to mitigate expenses related to home heating with fossil fuels. Frequently used as a term of derision by non-woodburners who mock the presence of loose bark and other wood waste in the beds of their pickup trucks.

It is doable but you need to match the bottom end to fit the cylinders.

Thanks XCR. So are you saying that as long as I use the correct length rods, I should be OK? What year Liberty motors would be compatible?

Also, as far as RPM's, my 99 was running 9 grand at WOT.

To go to larger cylinders I believe you would have to do some upper crankcase work as well. The motor you have is a small block and will not work with the cylinders from a big block 600, 700, or 800. The cylinders from a small block 500 or 600 may work, but you still have the crankcase issue as well as the CDI.

xcr,
I'm seeing 84-8500 on the big end which is where it should be for a long pull with a hot pipe. I still have an engagement issue to work out, it comes in at 4950 now, but is better. I'm going to try an almond/gold in the primary to see how it works. The W2s are 49.5 but are notched and heavily tip weighted.
