My engagement is low. I can just crack the throttle and hold it to 5500 before engagement. But WOT from idle and it engages at less than 5000 rpms. What do you suggest for primary spring. Running EPI almond high engagement spring now. Stock weights

EPI yellow secondary. Not sure of rates
EPI 50/34 progressive helix
new buttons
Brand new belt. 1 ride on it. Deflection set.

I couldn't find an EPI almond spring. Maybe a Polaris almond/gold? I had an issue with weights that the bushings had worn oblong. (egg-shaped) If this happens, it will affect everything. You can buy replacement bushings from Wahl Bros., Dennis Kirk, HPE, etc. I'm using the almond/gold now with HSP W2 weights. Works best for me. I just finished going through both clutches and after a good cleaning, new primary spring, new bushings in the weights, buttons (Pol. secondary), etc. everything is much better. I have been runnning the Team secondary and I like it better overall. The button isn't far off though.

The almond as well as the yellow secondary are now listed as no longer available. But they are listed on the reccomendation sheet for machines.

With a totally stock set-up, my sled will engage at 5200, and go to 8400 out of the hole. 8500 on a long pull. With the W2 weights it is a little lower on engagement, and goes to 8200 out of the hole, then climbs to 8500. Until I can try an R12, I like the R11 with the HSP orange #3 for trail use. The 36s shifts out too fast for me (rpms drop for a short time) and doesn't give the backshift I want. An HSP 36 (50/36) might work well.

The HSP orange with an R11 #2 not #3. This button set-up is a touch more responsive than the Team set-up with 66/44-.46, red/blue.

I noticed with the 50/36s that you need more secondary spring rate and a tad less on the top end rate for the primary.

My helix for the TEAM is still on B/O, things not looking good weather wise, next week temps well above freezing for most of the week and they are calling for rain. Effen bullsh!t. Unless we get nailed with a late winter storm afterwards my season may be shot to hell.

Do you have a TSS-98 or TSS-04? There have been a few of the 66/44.46 helixes on ebay and HCS. I'm impressed with Wahl Bros. Racing. They seem to have everything in stock and prices are lower than others I have checked into for sled stuff. Our weather is going in the same direction for at least a week. We won't be riding here until we get snow again. I did find that the R12 with a silver/blue #2 or a HSP orange #3 works quite well. What about your LEDs?

You going to run waubesa tomorrow or koshkonong on sun.

My buddy is going to run my 440 for me. I got it all picked this morning. Going to run my trail set up that I mentioned about 10 posts prior.

I turned the T-flow a tad richer. I can get alittle view of the pistons to check the wash. On the exhaust side I see about 1/4" of clear piston. I can see the ridges on the dome very good. The top is black.

What are they doing at each? Radar or drags and what distance? I would like to check one or both out but don't know about the warm weather. I haven't been keeping up with the runs in the area.

waubesa is at christy's landing in mc farland and the one on sunday is in front of the sunset bar just off of hwy 106 fort atkinson.

You bringing the sled?

Both are radar, waubesa 800' and koshkonong was 1000' 2 years ago. Not sure what this year will be.

Hopefully my sled comes back running. I trail road it hard last saturday. It ran good other than the loading up at WOT. Took it out monday, made a few rips and it seemed better, no loading up. air screws were a tad off. The screw is about 1/8th turn cw from dot.

I'm not going to the runs. I had a center crank bearing seize on the 440. The bearing cage let loose and took one piston and cylinder with it. Jetting was not the issue although is was running very good with 370 mains, 1/8 turn ccw, and very little wash. (less than 1/8") Could go a touch leaner if I wanted to run the ragged edge, but need a little insurance for the trail. Let you know when it is running again.

Mine ran 75 mph, I guess I got second. Their classes was 0-500cc's. Which is bs for us 440 guys. Going to look at my plugs and pistons. I set it a tad richer with the T-flow but at 40*+ I am not going to complain, I was told there was alot of water on the track. I know out fishing in milton we were in 4" of water.

I just got the sled home, plugs were very black/brown from the runs today and the 51*f.

Not going to mess with the carbs till temps get back to normal.

Did get this though....

From conversation I've had with other about the Tempa-Flow, it should be good to approximately 70* F. Sounds like your sled could go leaner but you are close. What did you run for a set-up and what RPM were you running through the lights? What other sleds were in your class?

no lights at waubesa, just a gun. I forgot to tell buddy to turn the screw leaner. I wasn't there but I do know it was ran against other 500's.

I was using hsp white,S53H,epi orange, hsp 50/36s in hole #3 with 2 .020" washers. not sure on tach as i wasn't riding it. Plugs were black/brown. Not much to do when you are pushing 4" of water either.

not with the low slung xcr chassis. Buddy who ran my sled did 90 mph with his 600 ho fusion.

I haven't tried the 440 on the water yet, but the 90 Indy 500, 91 Indy 650, 95 XCR 600, and the 98 XC 600 did well.

I was skipping water on top of the ice today and had a problem with belt slippage. After any amount of distance it would slip hold 8250 rpms and almost stop while holding peak. Is there anyway to prevent the belt from getting wet? Not sure where its comming in.

I never had an issue. Check around your front suspension for openings. Water may be coming in through the hood I guess.

When I replaced the belly pan on a sled a few years ago, I got the sealant that they use at our Polaris dealership. It was like black caulk that I put on all the seams and holes. Did you get your clutching straightened out Nick?

I through on a new belt. The Dayco HPX seems to work much better with my clutching than OEM. Thats what I had on when I originally tuned it, then switched back to polaris when belt wore. Thats when problems started. After setting deflection the sled rips. Responds much better with this belt, upshifts a tad slower and a **** load of backshift. Still a hesitation right out of hole. Maybe a half second, then takes off. Still have not synced carbs either. Also carb settings are back to stock, think need to play with mixture screw since I have boost bottle and reed spacers, even though they prob dont add to much.

Right now I am happy with the way it sits. The snow is gone here after almost a week of off and on rain. Looks like it may be next year before I get it figured out. I dont think clutching is my issue anymore. My timing could also be a tad off after replacing my flywheel and stator last season. Too many variables to rule out exactly what the cause is.
