My 01 mxz 800 backfires a lot. What causes this and how do I make it stop. Will it hurt the exhaust at all? I have tried to run all grades of gas through it, and I try to let it idle and tried shutting it down right away. Any tips?

Seems like its loading up. I know my mxz at times depending on how I drive it will back fire at times a bit after I shut it off or at when I start it. Usually happens when I run the sled had then come in slow down fast and shut if off. Or after idling for to long it sometime loads up.

I actually have seen and heard a few cats and ski-doo's back fire at the gas stations when im out riding. I wouldn't worry to much unless it's constant all the time and seems to be bad. If its every now in then I would just keep an eye on things.

I have the same problem with my 02 mxz 500. almost every time i am done riding it will backfire. I have found that after I have been riding hard and fast and I stop quickly without letting it cool down for a while it will backfire every time. It also happens when I start it sometimes.

Constant backfires could cause your sled to catch fire. Especially if it does it a lot. If theres too much fuel or if theres a slight fuel leak with a backfire then goodbye sled. I had a car backfire thru the carb and 10 minutes later she was toast.

If the sled backfires when you shut it down it's pretty standard on ski doos to (allthough I've herd it come from Poos too)...Like said above it'll happen fairly consistency when you shut it down right after running it hard....let it idle for 20 seconds or so before you shut it off and I'll bet you hear it backfire alot less...

While the image of John Candy's Ford LTD in "Uncle Buck" comes to mind, I will say if it's backfiring while it's running, your issue may be worse than you think. My sled was doing this while running and come to find out, I smoked a hole in the piston.

I trust your's is doing it AFTER the motor is shut off...

when you have water in your fuel your sled would backfire. Clean tank and carbs and fuel lines

Dont trust your sled trust your self
