Welp ! Its that time a year again, i have been painting cars in my auto body class for my second year now. The instructor leaves for a hunting trip next week & this is really the only time ive been able to custom paint.(my instructor hates custom painting) so when the cats away the mice will play ! My assistant instructor will be taking over & he is into this kinda painting big time ! last year i tackled a snowboard & it came out really cool, this year took me awhile to decide but its my sleds turn. Since there is a couple topics asking about painting a snowmobile hood i figured id chip in with my experience in painting, So here we go !

First off !
the Ginne pig for this experiment will be my Black 95 indy 500 !

Start by removing all Decals ! This can be done in many ways, but best way is a heat gun & fingernails/Credit card/ & a razor if your careful. Once the decals are all off you will most likely have some sticky residue left over from the decal, remove this with a grease & wax remover, laquer Thinner, or even some common cleaners around the house may take care of the job.

Next, Remove everything you will want to get painted. You could do alot of this stuff still on the sled, but when you want the BEST results, its best to remove everything, & it just makes it eisier to paint. To do this all i needed was a few common tools around the garage (1/4 socket set, screwdrivers,& fingers.) The trickiest parts i removed was the small trim pieces between the side panels, & the front bumper. These were Rivoted on ! i removed these with a Drill, punch,& a pair of vise grips.

Now the parts are ready to be brought to my shop, and get prepped for paint !

he's a crazzy old man, with not much of an artistic side to his painting ; )

First update. Got about 3-4 hours into worken the body now. Went over the whole sled with 320 to make sure she is completely smooth, removed everything i could, Grill mesh, Hood straps, and some rubber grommetts that keep the body from rubbing the other plastic. all this was done with the same tools mentioned above.
