Hi guy's. I've been on here a couple of times with 01 XCR 800 questions about how to make it run like it should and different adjustments to make to keep up with a buddies Viper. Just wanted to let you all know that I'm making progress did some adjustments before our last trip up to the U.P. and they made a huge difference. Now that I'm back in love with my sled, I'm thinking of putting a M-10 suspension under it to soak up some of the sled swallowing mogules I often encounter. Has anyone of you done this? If so, I'd like some opinions on the subject, pros and cons and if anyone knows or has one for sale. Thanx

Cheaper to install an edge skid in the rear. Several people have done the swap into an XCR 800, and I'm in the middle of doing one myself.

from what i heard its just about impossible to get it to hook off the line running the m-10...something about it not transfering weight well?...i'm sure others will chime in on that

Ya, I also heard that the M10 doesn't react to jumps aswell as the Edge either.

Will an Edge Suspension bolt right up? Or is there some modifying to be done?

No comparison between the Edge and the M-10. If you are a trail rider, the M-10 is the way to go.

Thats what I've been hearing. 98% of my riding is trails, I very rarely race unless I'm screwing around on a lake or line up against a buddy in a field. I do love this sleds power and the handeling is not bad at all (for what it is) I just wish It had a little more cushion for the rough trails. Thanks for the input, keep it coming. Also, looking for anyone that may have an M-10 or an Edge skid for sale. Just wanted to mention, that I'm not looking to make this sled a long track, want to keep it 121".

Just came back from Old Forge. The edge skid I put in without any prior setup performed as only described as a WOW factor of "9.5". For trail riding, the M-10 has the best ride. For all around riding, the edge is best.

I had an m-10 in my xcr 700 and the thing rode great but did not hook up well at all. I used a 1.25 track which helped but still spun. For the ultimate trail ride the m-10 is the best choice but you have an xcr so I assume you like acceleration and it will disappoint you. I have done all the swaps and you can find the specs on my site at www.jbshocks.com. I put a prox skid in a buddies xcr 800 and he just loves the sled but if you are talking smoothest and would like to keep a bit if acceleration opt for the edge.

well if you are not worried about top end. then change it. putting the m-10 or edge will lose about 5-6 mph on top, but if you trail ride then its ok. swap the edge, its a really good swap, i even know people with yamaha srx 700 doing the edge swap in their sleds. its worth it. but it is also cheaper than the $1500 m-10. you choice.

Man, you guy's are presenting a tough decision for me. I really want to do a skid swap of some kind to take the bumps better but I do like the acceleration I get from this sled, I definitely don't want that to go away, thats the reason for having an XCR 800 to begin with. However, like I said, I do more aggressive trail riding than racing, Its hard to tell, I've ridden both, my wife has a 2002 Indy 500 Edge thats rides absolutely beautiful, and a buddy has a 2002 XC 700 w/ M-10, both ride really nice. I really didn't realize that the M-10 and Edge were so close in comparison. Aren't there adjustments you can make to the M-10 to make it launch better?

My dad put an M-10 into his '01 XCR 800. He mostly rides trails and really likes the suspension. I do not know if he has had the chance to really compare the holeshot between the old suspension and the new. But how important is the holeshot when trail riding?

If you do change your skid to an M-10, be sure to properly mount it as you may need to drill new mounting holes to make sure it operates properly. Any dealer should be able to help. Once again it isa designed for trail riding , if yopu need to go 70 all the time it will be a waste. Have Fun!

Why would it be a waste if I want to do 70 all the time? I have a buddy with a XC 700 with an M-10 who is nuts (I don't like to ride this way all the time) he'll do 70 all day long through the trails with no problem and he says it handles and rides awesome. I'm definitely not arguing with anyone, after all I asked for the opinions, but like I asked before, aren't there all kinds of adjustments you can make to an M-10 for different riding styles, I do realize that it would probably rob me of some top end but my XCR is basically stock, anything I loose, I could basically get back with some mods. Am I right? And, like I said, I do 98% trail riding, but, I would like to use the power once in a while. If the Edge allows me to do that, then that is what I would want to go with, I just don't want to go cheap and not be happy with it, when I could spend the xtra $ on an M-10 and not have to worry, or the other way around. Sounds like I will have to do alot more research on this, I expected to hear the M-10 was the best, now I'm not so sure.

Jason,
I have about 20,000 miles of m-10 miles and have done every adjustment that there is. You can temporarily drop the fra for a drag race but it will not be trailable that way. All things being equal I would say that in 1/4 mile run the m-10 xcr800 would lose by 7-10 sled lengths in a 1/4 mile from a edge or pro skid. I never noticed a change in top end but I don't pin it to the bars for 3 miles across a lake either. I honestly think you will be disappointed in the m-10. Where do you ride at? If it happens to be the fife lake area I might be able to get you a test ride on a prox equiped xcr.

I ride mostly in the Grayling, Kalkaska, Alba area, Not too far from Fife Lake. I do mostly off trail riding there, try to stay off the marked trails as much as I can, but when I do hit a marked trail, it beats the hell outta me, however, I don't want to loose the reason I bought this sled to begin with, so, maybe a Pro X skid or an Edge is the way to go.

Here is a prox set up. I am not saying go with the pro. The edge would be a good choice between the two.

tpuck, clean sled.. very nice.
mine with tracks extensions
My first option was to find a eXpert, but could not justify the expence without at least trying one.
Sounds like you tried both, good luck.

It wasn't that long ago and one of you guy's were on here with pics about installing an edge in an XCR, I tried looking in archives but can't remember what it was called, if you could post some of those pics, I'd really like to study them. Also, what is involved in doing an edge swap? I'm sure it doesn't just bolt to my GenII chassis. And does anyone make a conversion kit, or am I on my own to figure it out?
