I have a 2006 XC 500 SP, it has PERC. The other day I drove it out of the shed to run it around the grass then when I have it in reverse to back it in the shed it stalled out, then I restarted it like nothing had happend. Today I ran it on the stand and it was doing about 20 or 30 on the stand and I grabbed the brake quicky to stop the track and it stalled again. I am wondering has this type of thing happend to people with newer edges? Or maybe the sled is just stalling out due to running rich from the warm weather? The plugs were black so maybe at the lower rpm's it was flooding out? Any help would be great thanks!
Moved to this forum because this is where you post for help diagnosing your sled. Thanks. ACM

Did it stall out because there is too much friction with the belt and the primary clutch? Or did it stall out because it will not idle?

No it will idle, these two times happend out of the blue? I know this is kind of a wide open question....i guess i will have to wait and see if it does it again? But if it is due to too much friction on the belt and primary what could be going on?

What kind of prep did you do last spring? Have the Carbs been cleaned? Perc can stall if the sled hasn't had been warmed up, although this is more common when it's really cold out. If you fogged the engine or stabled the gas, I'd shut the gas valve off and then run the carbs out of gas. Then I'd fill the tank with fresh gas, turn the gas valve back on and get her running on fresh gas. After that I'd see if it happens again. Also change the plugs.

The reason I mentioned it was because I had my jag do what yours is doing once. Turned out the motor had shifted and it was pulling on the belt a little. That drag created alot of headaches. I would hit the brake and it would stall every time.

The primary clutch is probably really gunked up and is not diengaging, A friend is haveing the exact same problem. Next time run the sled on the stand with the hood open and watch the primary, you will probably notice it is still grabing the clutch and it will not let go till the motor is off and the spring finnaly puches it out. The advice I got from the members on here is that you should theroughly clean your clutch and see what happens, also you may want to check motor alignment as arcticcatmatt stated. Good Luck.

yeah i was thinking about just taking it up to the shop and having the clutch aligned,it has gas in it from last season so i am sure that does not help, but to me it seems more in the clutch than bad gas, and or damp plugs. I will guess I will drain gas, put new plugs in and see what happens, then go from there....but thanks for the help guys!! Keep the suggestions coming if you have any!
