If you take 10k and convert it to danish crowns will be 50.000 danish crowns then you add taxes and shipping from the states and voila a new sled in GREENLAND cost´s 100.000 danish crowns ,so we pay 20k for a new sled here.
There´s something wrong in our goverment, they could take the same 33% from speedboats and outboards instead of something we just can use in 4-5 months

Not many folks that you see on these boards will pony up for brand new sleds each year.

Anyway, no hard feelings....just don't lable everyone with a new sled as a rich a-hole.

If you will read my very first sentence, I clearly say "not many" which last I checked was not "everyone" So I was very careful not to label "everyone".

You on the other hand were not so careful, and decided to associate my "load of crap" as you put it so eloquently, somehow with some Democratic, Liberal ,ASS Suck, Why?

I am a long ways from sticking 10 grand into my sled and it will have a newer shorty seat/tank, brand new aftermarket skis, chrome moley front end, light wieght hood, light wieght brake rotor, handle bar pivot riser, braided steel brake line, aluminum 8" rear wheels, everthing poweder coated, and oh yea, 210 HP 1029 TRIPLE UNDER THE HOOD, WHOOP WHOOP CAN I GET AN AMEN? AAAAMEN!! the dry weight will be about 500 lbs. so what new sled can compare to that? not one because this one is built for me by me. custom sleds are the only way to go.

if sumone gave me 10k then ill go out and by a leftover. then after i buy that i will go out and buy another leftover. then after that i will have gas money for the year maybe. idk how anyone can ride the same year they buy a 10k sled. how are you gunna have gas money....i paid 1200 for mine and its almost 2 sleds. extra chassis extra hood and every thing to build another motor wexcept the block(sum parts doubles and triples). new track and studs wit 20 miles. and it is slightly modded for performance. its a comfy sled and ive grown up with the people who owned it before me so i know what they all did to it. i would rather have that then a brand new one.

First off, I would never discredit anyone based on anything but their own stupidity. So you can forget all the "I'm a woman" BS. All I was saying is you could've worded your post to not sound so across the board. Anyway, that's way more than enough said on this but hey, maybe I'll see you on the trail somtime....by the looks of it you'll either be digging your sled out or getting it towed. That's O.K.

it was a good post ripnchick. i enjoyed it. cuz we really get a lot of ppl up here like that. in the last few years we have seen a family that was our really good frend go to being intollerable. we buy sumthing then they top it off with something better. the shop does all the work and they dont even know what kinda mods they put on the sleds but they get a lot of work done. then they brag about it and when they ride there sleds they have ho idea how to change a plug. i had to go back 2 years ago and change the plug for the dad cuz there whole family couldnt figure it out. and all our sleds (even our modded 500s) are faster then there 700's. i dont know what it is about people with money but a lot NOT ALL are a-holes(i know a lot of really cool rich ppl so im not cuttin on them).

Dude what's up with that....I know that you said "Not many" but I figured i would say a little about me....so I would say I am not in that category

*I bought a new sled because I hate buying what others don't know how to take care of.

*I missed last year just so I could have the cash to buy a new one, which I will never do again. The only reason I sold it was to finish my Harley which was near what I called complete.

*I would rather ride than fix, but I know that keeping this sled long enough, it will get torn apart...that's just me.

*I am a married in my mid 30's

*I spend my summers clickin' miles on my motorcycle to put the motorcycle away as I head to Colorado for my archery elk hunt, to return back into PA to hunt as much as possible.

*Not much into Suburbans or Esclades but love my Ford F150. Can't haul my firewood or camp meat in an SUV.

*I only wear leather to protect myself on the scooter, prefer Cordura in the winter.

*I buy the best because there is no such thing as second place.

*My Ford is my camp..no camp for me, would love to have a camp though that I could stay in during hunting season and snowmobile season, but just haven't pulled the trigger on that.

*My sled sits right next to my scooters in the garage...its called the "Toy Box"

Yes, many of us ride old dogs, mod them up (or just repair them each season) and gladly continue to do so.

It is us, this group that I would label true fanatics. They run what they brung, the wrench 'em, they mod 'em, and they come here to talk about it.

There are folks out there that pay $10K evey single year for a new sled. I know these folks, but you will find few, if any, around here,

They are pseudo fanatics.

They're married middle agers, who live in the burbs in New Jersey, drive Suburbans or Escalades and wear gold chains.

They buy the best each year.

They have a camp up north, where they trailer to during the winter months, they put on a few hundred miles in their leather suits, but mostly make pit stops for wings and beers. (or you should say "be-ahs")
They talk a big game while the snow is flying.......

....but once the snow melts (or many times before then) they pack up their sled, many will store them for the other 3 seasons at a dealer storage shop, and they resume their Suburban bliss.

They go to work, their kids go to school, they probably have a fishing boat where they troll for Blues in the LI Sound............they won't think or talk about their sled for 8 months out of the year.

And that my friends, is irony at it's best.

I think the price of new sleds is crazy too. I personally think that price of lots of things is insane though. People keep paying the prices though, so they slowly go up and up every year.
I understand that someone has to pay for the r&d and that with how much sleds improve every year you cant expect the prices to stay the same, but how sophisticated do we really need our sleds to be?
The fact is that most of us dont need gas shocks, digital gauges and electronically adjustable suspensions; but the magazines and advertisments try to convince us that we cant live without stuff like that.
Thats why I really like the IQ Shift. Its a simple, no nonsense, no frills sled that gives great performance at a great price. No, it doesnt have remote res gas shocks and a 1.25" lug track, but you know what? Most people who just ride groomed trails dont need all that stuff.
It wasnt all that long ago that I was riding a '90 Polaris Indy 400 that had a lot less suspension, a lot less power and was just a lot less sled than what I have now and I had just as much fun on.

Anyone who wants to say I'm not a true fanatic for buying brand new sleds, be my guest...but you're living in you're own world. I wrench with the best of them, Customize my new toys and they are stored in my OWN garage, thank you very much. No vehicles OTHER than my sleds park in the garage. I buy new because if no one does... well we all know what happens to dealers that dont sell new product. Not everyone can afford it, that I understand. Get OFF your High Horse!

She's making a statement about people that buy new sleds, on a site full of fanatics that buy new sleds... She's generalizing people that buy new sleds... Wait a minute I did state WHY I disagree with her statement, I DO NOT fit her "MANY" people statement... To make those comments on a site FULL of FANATICS is crazy... She's stating that buying an old sled makes you a true fanatic... Guess what I started off on an old sled. I buy new to support the sport. If no one bought new, we wouldnt have a sport. If no one bought new Erick's dad wouldnt have a job. The list goes on and on. Leading by example DOES NOT mean I can't disagree. Do you want me to be weak minded and agree with the masses, I think not. Carry On.

If I buy new I will buy a new left over. There are some really good deals around if you can find them, I mean you can find some sleds that make you want to go, "Whats wrong with it." There out there, no need to spend $10,000 new.....

The way she described "many" of the new sled buyers was insulting. Why would you not be a little bit spiteful? She was talking about such a small percentage of this sport. To generalize that way even a little is just stupid. What would people say if someone on a new machine put up a post about people that ride used. Say for example,"I can't stand it when I'm on a ride and I'm having lunch somwhere and a bunch of meth heads pulled up on their junk. Once their done their gonna just go back to their labs and cook more meth." Sounds pretty retarded doesn't it. Obviously she wasn't that extreme but I'm tryin to prove a point.

i am satisfied with my 06 for 6k. i know that i will have it for a while, the technology is definately up to date. i will just be modding it annually and making better.

i agree with the others though on the history topic. i know that my sled has probably taken some beatings from un-experienced people renting it in the mountains.
