Has anyone ever added electric start to a 1996 Mach 1 670? I bought an electric starter kit off of Ebay. The gentleman told me it came off of a 1992 Safari GLX. He also told me it would fit the 96 mach 1. It is the same starter part number and I had to get a different rear mounting bracket. The trouble I am having is the starter is hitting the motor mount on the bottom and the water pump housing on the top. I ground some of the motor mount and the rubber bushing. But I still can not get the starter in and both backets to line up and I can not get the water pump housing back on. Please help!!!

Umm no dude...that is not the right starter in any way...just leave it off, if you cant start a 670 in 2 pulls you have issues.

I checked the starter part numbers for the 1992 Safari and a 1996 Grand touring 670 and they use the same starter. I know I have issues with this thing starting it has been to 3 different Skidoo mechanics and this thing is a bear to start. That may be the reason it is a 1996 with 143 miles on it. If you put brand new plugs in every time you start it it will start in maybe 4 pulls.

Same starter, different brackets....

96 xlt sks/rmk. custom 5.5 inch riser on the bars, custom air intake, custom front shock mounts, custom oil feed channel in block to inner pto end bearing, primer (I hate chokes), custom = I made it myself, why pay someone when you can build it yourself. HPG TA's off a 94 mach Z with F3 springs for the front end. Bright pink springs and a purple skid plate, woohoo!!

Yes same starter...but not meant for this machine. Does it have a primer? it should? I think they all did up till 97. If so 3 good squirts and one or two pulls and a 670 will almost always wake up.

I bought new starter brackets from Ronnies mail order. Could I replace the motor mount bracket with one from a Grand Touring 670?

It does have a primer. I put a new primer on last year and it is still very hard to start. Nobody wants to ride this thing because it is so difficult to start. The colder it is out the better it starts.

Why do you need to replace the motor mount bracket...It's rich if its fouling plugs and doesnt want to run on used plugs...jet it...ski-doo shop should have told you that.
