Went to Shade Tree last night ostensibly to get carbides, helmet quick release and some other misc odds and ends, but this time the Wife was with me. She never wanted to go snowmobiling with my Son and I, but decided to give it a try this year. Well, the long and short of it is she walked out of the store with a new helmet, Choko jacket and bibbs, Gloves and boots, all in matching pink and black. Needless to say the carbides will have to wait until next payday. Were supposed to get alot of snow over the next week, I told her at least she'll look good laying in a snow drift when we go off the trail ! Oh well, I'm just glad she decided to finally go with us, I guess it's a small price to pay ! Now I just have to take it easy so I don't scare her ! Has this ever happened to any of you ? My Cutie

Way to go ArcticOhio. My story is not quite as dramatic as that. My wife grew up around snowmobiles, but never rode much. When we were first riding together, she just had a Carhartt jacket and bibs, which aren't the greatest for snowmobiling. She got a wet butt a lot. When we got married, it worked out well that she got her own machine and we have been updating her riding gear little by little each year. She is wearing a decent (but hand-me-down) jacket and finally upgraded to brand new waterproof bibs last year. We will probably upgrade the jacket soon, too. Her machine will be the next one we upgrade, too, as hers is a few years older than mine and has a poorer suspension.

Now the big question is will the new gear be used?? Last fall during all the swap meets my wife decided she wanted to ride last year. Got her some awesome boots, gloves, bibs, helmet, jacket. They all still have the tags and never once left our closet. I gave her a hard time about it this year when my son got new gear at the swap meets. I don't think she'll use them this year either lol.
When hell freezes over I'll ride there too!!

i got my fieance' into snowmobiling. i started off borrowin my mom and dads sleds for our first run, she seemed to like it so i bought 2 used ones used them a year or 2, and got her all the right gear to keep her as warm as possible, then finally 2 winters ago got to brand new sleds. (reason for the new sleds was the used ones were rough on her back, and i couldnt get her a new one without me gettin a new one :) ) now we should be in good shape.
i never had her go with me though when i was shopping for parts or anything...and when we go ridin its prety much up to me for checkin everything over all shes wants is to get on it and go.

The truth is, if they don't want to, they ain't going to! Does not matter if they have designer suits or hand me downs. Nothing worse than having someone with you, that does not want to be there. Take my ex, for case in point.
Compromise is the best. If they are happy doing something else, and still allow you to do what you want within reason, you have the best of both worlds.
A false expectation that " Because I enjoy something, so should you" sets one up for full disappointment.
I love to ice fish, my wife hates it. She prefers to stay home and cook, bake and clean. How bad can that be?
If our significant others support us in other ways, then we should capitalize on that and make both parties happy.
Just the threat of "do you want to go with me and do........" can be cause for angst. If you know they don't enjoy something, don't force it upon them. Perhaps they will come along to your way of thinking slowly. Or a great compromise can evolve!

Did the same thing 2 years ago, got the wife all the gear and a 98 Jag 440 in mint condition.
She rode around the yard and said she didn’t like it. I told her not to give up on it until she tries the trails.
She didn’t get a chance to go out last year. So I’ll find out this winter if were going to sell the Jag……or get 2 new sleds!

In my case, I'm glad the wife wants nothing to do with riding a sled. I can hardly support her summertime habit, owning a motorcycle. Come home with new goodies for my bike and she wants it also! In the winter its cheaper for me to travel 250 miles to ride for the weekend on the sled than it is for both of us to spend the weekend on the road with the bikes!
It's all about the ride to get there, the destination doesn't matter!

I have the opppsite problem. I am no longer allowed to go to my favorite dealer without the wife. The last time I went alone, I was going to get 3 spark plugs for the wife's XLT but I ended up buying two brand new sleds. Now she sayes I can't go there without adult supervision. At least I am lucky in that the wife loves sleddin as much as I do.

My wife is very happy that I have found a hobby I like. She has no intentions of doing it. She has her own hobbys. But when I go to parts store I have to tell her what I'm spending and why. If anything extra I have to call. Because I have been known to get "The Fever" in store and come home with more

I appreciate what some of you have said about being happy to do your own thing, and I will enjoy snowmobiling regardless of whether she likes it or not. I just wanted her to give it a try, before deciding she dosen't want to do it. Her main bitch was she doesn't like to be cold, I don't remember the last time I was really cold when riding. If she doesn't like it then my daughter can use her stuff, or I can put it on ebay, either way I'm only out a couple hundrad bucks ! My house sits right on our local trail system, so we just pull out of the garage, down the driveway and we're on a 160 miles of trails. The trail goes to 6 taverns, and a state park lodge, and many times she'll drive there and meet us, so I think once she finds out you stay pretty warm with the proper clothing, she'll enjoy the sport. We are also allowed to ride on Township roads where I live so we can pretty much go anywhere on our sleds. The Cops out here do not have any snowmobile patrols and the trails are private and thus open to club members only, so it makes for a much more enjoyable ride when leaving the tavern at 2:30 am ! I would also just like to mention that after 3 kids and 19 years of marrage I still like hanging out with the old girl !
PS. Got my carbides this afternoon, Stud Boy 4.5" duals and some iridium plugs, she fired on the first pull cold and it's snowing like the devil right now so maybe tomorrow......

Haha sounds great.
I'm not married but whenever any of my friends or dad goes to the shop wthout me, man do they get bitched at, lol. I've been asking for a new helmet and bibs for about 3 years...but to no such avail... but oh well. It's still fun to look around th shop, even without any money.
Way to go! We need more women in this sport.
1. If I like it, it's mine.
2. If its in my mouth, it's mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
5. If I'm chewing something up, all the pieces are mine.
6. If its mine, it must never appear to be yours anyway.
7. If it just looks like mine, it's mine.
8. If I saw it first, it's mine.
9. If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
10. If its broken, it's yours.

My wife never snowmobiled. I bought her a XLT a few years ago while I rode my XC700 she liked it but didnt like the hassle of it. It continued to have issues and was always working on it. We got a bunch of snow and of course it wouldnt run.
She went to the Yamaha dealer the next day and bought brand new Vector GT and all new gear and we went up north the next weekend and she fell in love with the sport. We got home and she said, here, go buy a new Apex and get all new gear so we will all look good. Then bought new enclosed trailer.
We went every weekend and spending money on sledding never raised a brow. We stayed at nice places and she was in love with the sport. She rode my apex one day and promptly traded her Vector in on an 08 Apex ltx gt with the 40th colors, she of course had to buy all new gear and helmet.
She is great and lets me spend anything I want on snowmobile stuff. She didnt even freak when I dumped the back of my sled through the ice on Koskoniong, or smoked a culvert with a ski and her behind me...she still loves it :)
