Why is it that when I burn a 700 meg .mpeg movie onto a DVD to play in my DVD player it takes up much more than 700 megs even when reduced to low quality (low quality still looks perfect on my tv).

I guess I don't understand what your asking here ACM.

I typically use a program called DVD shrink to compress the video and back it up. then I would burn it with cloneDVD. If I was making a compulation of a series of short video's I use a editing program like nero or now adobe.

Try compressing the video with dvd shrink first then burn it. you might want to save an original copy first just in case.

^ I see what you mean.

What I was trying to say is I take a movie file thats 700 megs. I put into my dvd making software and it says 2 gig left on disk. The disk is like 4.7 gigs. So that means the 700 meg file is taking up 2.7 gigs of space?

I understand better now, try running the file through dvd shrink. It's been my experience that when files are converted to DVD format the tend to increase in size. I don't know why it does that, I guess I have just lived with it.
