I purchased alot of stuff from a person the other day in Georgia for xmas. She shipped it ASAP to get it to me before this weekend (I am leaving town for the holidays).
DHL is what she used. I check the tracking number, its been on a delivery truck for 2-3 days now. I call and they say "Sorry, we are doing the best we can, all the drivers are behind, we are doing our best to get packages out for the holidays, no delivery estimates will be given."
Great...
Anyone else having issues?

I don't think DHL has the speediest delivery service. I think that most of their delivery people are indepedently contracted truck. I called to complain about their drivers a couple years ago and that's what I was told.

Funny. My brother ordered a gift for my wife for Christmas. He called earlier in the week to see if we got it, because he expected it to be at our house by then. It wasn't, but came a couple days later. The company shipped it DHL. What I thought was really odd, though, is that DHL delivered it to our post office, and then the mail carrier delivered it to our mailbox. DHL must not do all their own delivering, especially in rural areas. The other hitch to this is that the mail carrier on our route comes from a post office that is a "satellite" of another post office. DHL probably didn't know that and actually delivered it to the regular post office. So, I am sure it took at least one extra day to get it from the regular post office to the satellite office, too.
We've never had a problem with UPS. FedEx is not my favorite.

FedEx couldn't find our house, either. The first time, I couldn't blame the guy, though. Our mailbox is 1.25 miles from our house, since the USPS says they don't want to go down our road. The mailbox had our address on it in big numbers, but it happens to be very close to the driveway to an abandoned farmstead. I am sure the FedEx driver saw the address on the mailbox, pulled in the driveway, and couldn't figure out why it looked like nobody lived there. After some similar instances, we have taken the big numbers off the mailbox and wrote the address in very small print on the front of the mailbox. We also added the words, "Residence 1.25 miles north." Next summer I plan to make a decorative sign for the end of our driveway that incorporates our address. It should make it less confusing.

Sounds like the house down the road here. They ended up putting a trash can next to their mailbox that says "Packages here please".
Well I called DHL today. They are backed up many days. They said they have hired external help to assist them. They said if it isn't here by 2 pm tommorrow to call and schedule a pick up. That means I have to drive 1 HOUR to the closest facility on saturday. That SUCKS. Gas is 3.35 a gallon here and I paid almost $20 to ship the damn items in the first place.
So.. 20 bucks in gas now too if I have to drive there. 40$ to receive my package. ughghghg.
So.. tomorrow is their last chance. Never again will my stuff be in the hands of DHL.

But did I lose? No one else posted up a time, so I think I won by default.
I ship with USPS and rarely an issue.

I orderd skags for my sled 2:00 Wed. my wife calls me at 5:30 today says she has them in her hands. It pays to sleep with the shipping clerk at the local UPS hub. A lot of people hate UPS or other shippers just find one that works for you and marry the clerk, your packages will be on time all the time of coarse they are also inspected for damage, content, cost, and method of payment good luck

I was pretty impressed with fedex this week.
Ordered a couple of ipod shuffles for christmas presents on sunday at midnight, paid and extra $13 for express shipping (shipping is usually free)
Got them today at noon. According to the apple website they were shipped out on the 18th. Today is the 20th so thats not bad.
To add to it through the tracking info I found that they were coming from CHINA! I guess apple is all about the slave labour just like everyone else is these day. I found that funny because i ordered directly through apple and paid MSRP just so i knew 100% i wasnt getting cheap chinese knockoffs. LOL

I will never use DHL again! We received a package delivered from them with ink cartridges from Dell. The box was wet, smashed, and had a big whole in it where one cartridge fell out and was never recovered. Expensive Picture paper was wet and ruined. DHL did nothing about it. Thankfully Dell was nice enough to replace the lost items.

I also use USPS with a lot of luck thus far. I just purchased something on ebay and went to go pay for it, and it denied me so i had to call them and do it over the phone. No biggie, I think everyone is really busy this time of year, certain companies know how to handle the extra rush though.

I sure like that most of the countys around here have gone to street addresses in the country now, and not Rural Routes. Sure makes it easier to find places.

All of the shippers have standard delivery times, that they guaranty. If you pay for standard ground shipping, thats what you get. 3 - 5 BUSINESS DAYS as an example.
If you need 3 day service, 1 day service or overnight, then you have to pay for it. Plain and simple.
This being the busiest parcel time of the year, one should plan accordingly and PAY for the service you demand, not the service you hope to get.

We have street addresses, too, but nobody is familiar with them. Everybody knows where Elmer used to live 20 years ago, but nobody knows where 161st Avenue is. Ha ha. I like the addresses, because I can figure out exactly where something is. The other problem is for some reason our road is about the only road around that doesn't have street signs. I talked to the county engineer about it, but they haven't done anything, yet.
