First of all is Windows 2000 and Windows Milliemum (ME) the same operating system?

I'm trying to find Service Pack 3 (or greater) for Windows ME and all my searches come up with Windows 2000.

Sorry for what probably is a stupid question but I'm just a user.

Yes they are on the same platform,

When you try to install the 2000 sp3 on Millennium it will let you know if it is not the correct package for your ME operating system, otherwise it will install as normal.

If your having problems with ME, go back to Win 98 Second Edition.(Win 98 SE is good stuff for older/slower machines)

Thanks b.lee.

I have an older gateway that a friend recently helped me put a new motherboard in. Windows ME is the orginal operating system that came with it. I also dropped another 512k ram and a newer video card, and powersupply. I kept the same dvd and cd drives, and other stuff (sound card, etc.)

Anyway, I'm getting a ddhelp.dll error.

When I tried installing the Windows 2000 sp3 I got some kind of error saying the dll extension was missing.

Not sure if I should reinstall windows or what.

Yes, re-install, chances are if you replace that missing or corrupt file, there will be another 20 more .dll errors after that to fix also. (waste of time)

I'd save any data wanted, and format the hard drive, then re-install windows.

You should be able to use the ME CD-rom or a boot disk (from bootdisk.com) as a boot disk to boot the computer into 'ms-dos' mode.

then either from the a:, d:, e: prompt, type 'format c:'
then agree to the yes / no question.

then reboot and load the operating system as normal from the CD-Rom drive.

Windows 2000 and Windows ME are NOT the same platform. In fact, they're about as far apart in a technical sense as you can get. Everything about them is different except for a few interface similarities. Pigboy, does your computer have Windows ME on it and you're looking for a service pack? Windows ME was one of the biggest flops Microsoft ever made. It's a terrible, buggy, and unstable version of Windows. I'd suggest upgrading to something like Windows 2000 or XP...or heck, even downgrade to Windows 98 SE.

Yea, Windows ME is the only o/s that I have the registration to. Before I started getting these .dll errors I tried to install a jumpstart program for the boy and got a message saying that I needed to install Windows ME sp3 before continuing. I can't seem to find a ME sp anywhere, lots of stuff for other versions thou.

Maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and buy XP.

What Erick said is 100% true, just in case you needed a 2/3rds opinion. And this is from two people who work in IT for a living.
